Diary of a sleep deprived mama - and the No Cry Sleep Solution experiment!

Hi  I'm mum of 4 lovely children, my youngest is 5 months old :) I thought as an 'experienced' mum, I would have her in a routine and be back to a full nights sleep in no time - how wrong I was :giggle: My daughter isn't a good sleeper, she refuses day time naps and at night she typically wakens at least 4 times - sometimes less, typically more. I have bought the book 'No Cry Sleep Solution' by Elizabeth Pantley, as I don't want to go down the road of Controlled Crying or Cry It Out, nor do I want to spend the next 12 months wakening every couple of hours during the night - I'm mentally and physically exhausted by it.

So, this is my diary - I have no time limit in place, I only hope it works :)

Night 4

...was better than night 3 but then that wouldn't be too difficult

So, bedtime was a little later than usual, by half an hour, but the book says you can be flexible if needs be, so that was fine. All went to plan - there seems to be no problems at all in getting her to sleep, its the staying asleep that is the problem. So, first wake up was 45 minutes later - a full on screaming session - again, she wasn't fully awake, and after no amount of consoling her would work, dh brought her outside into the garden and she settled straight away - perhaps it was the cool air that woke her properly. I couldn't take the idea of another night of hourly wakenings - there is only so much of that anyone can take - so I brought her into my bed with me in the hope that would help. It did - we only woke once every 2 hours :giggle: It sounds mad, but compared to the previous night, I dealt with that OK.

Still going with the book, and trying to make sure she goes to sleep happy - unfortunately, we still aren't ready for 'Phase 1' which is comfort until baby is almost asleep - Squish needs to be in a deep deep sleep before I can put her down without her eyes popping straight open - but will keep working towards it :)

Stats - gah, another night where I was too tired to take any - lets just say, we had at least 5 wakenings, probably 6, but again just the one feed in the middle of all that, close to 3.30am, so I will say it again - that is an improvement in itself :)
