Diary of a sleep deprived mama - and the No Cry Sleep Solution experiment!

Hi  I'm mum of 4 lovely children, my youngest is 5 months old :) I thought as an 'experienced' mum, I would have her in a routine and be back to a full nights sleep in no time - how wrong I was :giggle: My daughter isn't a good sleeper, she refuses day time naps and at night she typically wakens at least 4 times - sometimes less, typically more. I have bought the book 'No Cry Sleep Solution' by Elizabeth Pantley, as I don't want to go down the road of Controlled Crying or Cry It Out, nor do I want to spend the next 12 months wakening every couple of hours during the night - I'm mentally and physically exhausted by it.

So, this is my diary - I have no time limit in place, I only hope it works :)

Success - but maybe not...

So, last Friday night, dh did the usual bedtime routine, and Squish was fast asleep for 8.30. I went to bed around 10 and she was still sleeping, so I thought I would get some sleep in before she started wakening - well, I woke at 5am and she was still sleeping :yahoo: and she slept right through until 7ish :)

Wow, bloody fantastic - SHE CAN DO IT!!! The smile stayed etched on my face all day - a full nights sleep, a full nights sleep - whoohooooooo!

DH thought that was it, she had just decided to give up on overnight wakenings and our disturbed nights were a thing of the past - but Squish had other ideas :giggle:

Here we are, 6 sleepless nights on - last night again the worst of the week as she woke every hour and nothing but a breastfeed would settle her. Her last feed was at 5.30am and its now almost 8.30am and this is the longest stretch of sleep she has had - I however had to get up at 7am and I can guarantee when I get my other smalls out to school that Squish will be wide awake and there will be no chance of me creeping back into bed.

I'm at a loss - I really am - how many theories can we have for why she is wakening and when will we get the answer - or maybe, there isn't an answer, we just meander along and ride it out and hope that at some point she will just have enough, roll over and sleep :loopy:
