Diary of a sleep deprived mama - and the No Cry Sleep Solution experiment!

Hi  I'm mum of 4 lovely children, my youngest is 5 months old :) I thought as an 'experienced' mum, I would have her in a routine and be back to a full nights sleep in no time - how wrong I was :giggle: My daughter isn't a good sleeper, she refuses day time naps and at night she typically wakens at least 4 times - sometimes less, typically more. I have bought the book 'No Cry Sleep Solution' by Elizabeth Pantley, as I don't want to go down the road of Controlled Crying or Cry It Out, nor do I want to spend the next 12 months wakening every couple of hours during the night - I'm mentally and physically exhausted by it.

So, this is my diary - I have no time limit in place, I only hope it works :)

I can't remember what nights we have covered now :?

...but I'm slowly but surely going mad here through lack of sleep :(

OK, so we have had the odd night success with just 1 wakening at 5am - now those nights have been few (possibly 2) and far between (ie I can't remember the last one) but I'm starting to realise these have been a fluke, just when we have hit lucky rather than any kind of pattern or routine starting ...

Nights 8 through to 14

Well, what can I say :( This isn't working. We had 1 night where she woke once - I can't remember which night it was but wow, we thought great, this is brilliant :) The next night, she woke twice in the night - we can deal with that we thought, twice a night is wee buns, no bother. But, it wasn't to last - we are back to...

Nights 5, 6 and 7 :)

Night 5 - OMG, another one with numerous wakenings, mostly for cuddles, and 2 for feeds. Apparently I told my dh during one of these wake ups that I couldn't take any more - he apparently suggested taking her to see the Monks at the Monastry and I agreed :giggle: the things you say when you are sleep deprived, what did we think the Monks were going to do ...

Night 4

Permanent Linkby eviesmummy on Sun Sep 25, 2011 3:38 pm

...was better than night 3 but then that wouldn't be too difficult

So, bedtime was a little later than usual, by half an hour, but the book says you can be flexible if needs be, so that was fine. All went to plan - there seems to be no problems at all in getting her to sleep, its the staying asleep that is the problem. So, first wake up was 45 minutes later - a full on screaming session - again, she...

Night 3

Permanent Linkby eviesmummy on Sun Sep 25, 2011 4:20 am

In one word - disaster!

The day was great - she napped for 2 hours in the morning, which is unheard of, then had another 40 minutes nap in the sling around teatime - I was amazed :) The evening routine then went wrong - at 6.45 she fell asleep in her Jumperoo - so the debate, waken her, and do her bedtime routine, or try and put her to bed, she was obviously tired, right? As she was already in a sleepsuit,...
