On April 12th 2006 we woke up excited, today Jack was 6 months old and starting weaning. I was planning on giving baby rice but I was a poor expresser due to a rubbish manual pump I now know so had no milk to mix it with. I decided to nip out and get him some rusks as these could be mixed with water into mush for him.

We tried sweet potato chips for tea yesterday and wow, not one bit of mess. She ate every single one of them really quickly so I can chalk them up as another hit. I'll do her some more for lunch today as they were so quick to do, I just par boiled them for 5 minutes then shoved them in the roasting tray with a small amount of oil. I sneaked a couple in Jack's normal chips too and he ate them...

Lucy is absolutely loving her food now. As soon as she gets put in her highchair she gets all excited. Her favourite finger food is banana at the moment. But avocado and banana mashed together with a bit of ebm is her favourite mushy food. She just can't get enough of it. I can't believe how much easier blw is compared to the standard puree route. I used to spend ages cooking batches of different foods to puree and freeze for Jack whereas Lucy just gets whatever is ripe in the fruit bowl. I do poach...

Pear was a hit yesterday, it was lovely and ripe though. I just cut it into chip sized pieces and it kept her amused for ages before she ate nearly a full pear. She was having lots of fun pushing the pieces round her highchair tray and trying to pick up the squishy, slimy pieces to eat them.

Well 1 week in and blw seems to be going well. Last week she seemed to just play with the food rather than eating it but this week she has really got down to business. The big hit of the day was avocado and banana mashed and spread on rice cakes yuck. She must be a savoury girl (not like me) as the face she pulled when I gave her a bit of nectarine was a picture . We are avoiding wheat, eggs...
