help with swaddlebees

Postby diz » Sat Jun 13, 2009 9:08 am

Hi ladies......

I'm in the last couple of months on my first pregnancy and have been purchasing preloved nappies from the forum for a couple of months.

Through this site i came across the weenotions and swaddlebees web pages fell in love with the nappies and just had to purchase a few!!! I'm still waiting for my weenotions stuff to arrive (a PUL AI2 and a Northern Lights) But my swaddlebees stuff turned up yesterday. 1 x newborn fitted organic velour 1 x small snap AIO (i also purchased a wrap)

The questions are.......

The fitted has a sewn on flap of material. Do i put my nappy liner (i have some flushables) on top of this or do i need to purchase any inserts, liners (material ones) or doubblers (and what the hell are all of those things for .... and do!!!!) Do i only need to use one of those three things if my baby is a heavy wetter (in which case i should get some in just incase and which type of material is the best to get) With the washable liners, do they add as an extra absorbency layer too do they just catch the poo like the flushables??

Then with the AIO.... it has an opening at the back and has a padded section that is attached at both ends so not like a toung like the fitted. I take it the opening in the back is for me to add more material if i do not get enough absorbency from the nappy alone?

Also (i'm so sorry about this) with the AIO i will place my flush-able nappy liner on the top of the velour but do i need to use any thing else in between the velour and the liner to protect the velour (or is what the pocket is for).

Its great that there are sooooooooo many options, styles, fastening systems, materials, liners, boosters and doubbles but it blooming confusing to a newbie :hohoho: :hohoho: :hohoho: :hohoho:

Thanks for all your help!

The flap of material is called the soaker. You need to put the liner on top of it. A doubler is another word for booster and is mainly used by Americans.

Do i only need to use one of those three things if my baby is a heavy wetter (in which case i should get some in just incase and which type of material is the best to get) With the washable liners, do they add as an extra absorbency layer too do they just catch the poo like the flushables??

If your LO is a heavy wetter you may wish to add a booster/doubler so you don't need to change your LOs nappy as often. A liner is not absorbent, the purpose of it is to a) make poo removal easier and b) keep baby's skin dry

Then with the AIO.... it has an opening at the back and has a padded section that is attached at both ends so not like a toung like the fitted. I take it the opening in the back is for me to add more material if i do not get enough absorbency from the nappy alone?

Yep, the opening is to add extra boosting if needed

Also (i'm so sorry about this) with the AIO i will place my flush-able nappy liner on the top of the velour but do i need to use any thing else in between the velour and the liner to protect the velour (or is what the pocket is for).

You will need to put the liner on top of all the other layers so it is touching baby's skin. Flushable liners aren't stay dry like fleece is so baby will feel wet. If the nappy isn't fleece lined you may want to add a fleece liner between the flushable one and the nappy.

The swaddlebees AIO has a layer of fleece under the velour for the 'stay dry effect' so if you want you can use it without a liner and just have the velour next to baby's skin

Thanks Ruth, would there be an increased risk of staining the velour if a liner was not used...?

I suppose there would be, although I always found any stains sunned out when hanging on the line.

Tbh I didn't find the fleece lining under the velour in Swaddlebees AIOs very effective at keeping the nappy stay dry at all... Matthew always had a lovely dry bum when using fleece liners but his bum always felt damp when using the AIO on its own. I sold our one for this reason. I know some people prefer more natural fabrics next to the skin though.

Return to AIO's (All in ones)
