Cloth Nappy Tree Forum

OK - I like to think I'm reasonably intelligent but perhaps not when it comes to cloth nappies any more. So much has changed since DD used them about 4 years ago.

I've bought an Itti Bitti D'Lish nappy and also a mini snap in booster.

But I'm not sure how I use them.

Do I just fold the big soaker thingy into three and snap it inside the outer 'wrap' part of the nappy? Then sit the hourglass booster thingy on top?

Does this mean that all the absorbancy in the nappy is only in the middle part and nothing elsewhere? I've not used snap in AIOs/AI2s before (can you tell? ).

If I were to use the mini snap in booster where would I attach it? Presumably I could use the trifold thingy folded into three, then put the hourglass booster on top then would I put the mini booster on top of that? Or does it go underneath the hourglass booster? So sandwiched between that and the trifold insert?

If my son does a poo presumably it could make the whole thing dirty and not just the insert bit in the middle of the nappy? In which case I'd have to change the nappy completely rather than just snap in another insert? Sounds like an excuse to buy more of these. Not that I need an excuse of course......

I really want this to work for us as I don't have a tumble drier so AI2s/AIOs like this and pocket nappies would be the best way for us to go.

Sorry about all the daft questions - I feel so daft asking what must be so obvious to other people. Nappies seemed so much more straightforward 4 years ago.

Basically YES!

There are poppers at the front and back of the outer 'wrap' bit and they're colour coded - match the poppers up and you should be fine, one set for the tri-fold bit and one for the hourglass bit...

Pretty much altho' they should be the width of the 'wrap' bit - they are quite slim cut between the legs I've found but actually they're quite absorbant for that...

If you look on the reverse side of the hourglass shaped bit you'll see two poppers - it will popper on there
So yes - between the hourglass and the trifold...

Aye you could, I'm actually contemplating buying another set of inserts for ours...
I find with our berryplush I need to change the outer, but with my itti-bitti I don't which is FAB and would save on so much washing!

I heartily agree that AI2s and pockets are best when you don't have a tumbledrier!

I really wouldn't worry about the silly questions - we're all the same at the start and you should see some of the daft questions I've been asking about knitting!!!

PS: If after my ramblings you're still unsure I can try and take some pics to explain what I mean when it's out of the wash - which won't be until tomorrow/Sunday probably...

So is the itti-bitti quite good at containing all the poo on the insert bit? Not sure my son's poo wouldn't 'stray' onto the wrap.

He's got a tummy bug at the moment though so tends to explode! I tried it on him then quickly to see how it fitted him then took it off and put a disposable on. I don't have enough pocket nappies yet to keep him in cloth right now (we're getting so many dirty nappies you wouldn't believe it, poor little man. Can't wait to get him back in cloth though - I hate hate hate disposables.

Hmmm hard to say really as Isabelle is 2 now so altho' her poos are sometimes extremely splodgey and explodey they're not on the scale of a solely breastfed newborn/young baby...

I was actually pleasantly suprised tho' at how well they contained a poorly toddler poo as I was worried it would leak everywhere given how slim it was...

Might just be a case of try it and see what happens... - Are you doing part-time cloth at the moment?

(know what you mean - I reeeeeeeeeeally don't like disps, they SMELL!!)

He's actually bottle fed but his poo is quite explosive at the moment. Afraid we're in disposables full time at the moment. We were using fitteds and wraps but his legs were getting sore from the elastic being too tight so I am in the process of trying to sell all the size 1s that he's grown out of already (he's long in the body ). The ME wraps which I loved with DD seem to have been agravating his thighs too. He has some awful marks on his thighs - they look like burn marks almost. (know what you mean - I reeeeeeeeeeally don't like disps, they SMELL!!)

They are grim. I used them all the time on DS1 as I didn't know about the world of cloth, changed to cloth with DD when she was 5 months old and never looked back. With DS2 I ended up having an emergency c-section and had a hard recovery from it so all the small newborn nappies and wraps I bought were way too small for him (he was only 8lb 9oz so hardly huge ) but by the time I felt able to cope with cloth he was too big.
Let us know how it gets on as I'd really like to know for the next one (whenever that is!)

We had trouble with the same sort of marks on Isabelle's legs - I did find stripping them (or doing an extra rinse) helped but then I discovered the weenotions wraps - and yes they're not as slim fitting as the ME Rikki wraps we don't seem to have had any of the leg problems with the weenotions wraps... And they're just as reliable I found...

i've never had problems with wraps before so was quite shocked to find these awful marks on his legs.

i've been smothering them with bepanthen cream and they're clearing up nicely.

i haven't got any fitted nappies that fit him now so hoping to move to pockets/ai2s. wondering though what type of pocket would be best for nights?

any thoughts?

Definately - if you're sure you want to use pockets at night then in my opinion the best bet are standard minki pockets - they're quite bulky but take a lot of stuffing and are quite reliable...
