2017 Harvests and flowers!

The potato experiment! These ones are the ones I planted just slightly into some soil (but not as deep as 'normal') I then used straw rather than dirt to 'mound up'. Note the bind weed which totally got away on me and I had to pull off each section before I harvested



They came out pretty clean and didn't have to dig very much at all!

Ended up with 10kg from an approximately 2.5x2.5 metre patch:

More onions that I planted between the potato rows:

More looking good! I like that idea for the potatoes!
We've had a handful of peas. A few blackberries. One meal of potatoes and a courgette so far! Not on your standards!

Swiss chard

Basil

Nearly a kilo of beans, mini aubergines, courgette

All together I'm actually pretty impressed !

Another huge box of grapes that we turned into 4.5 litres of grape juice yesterday for the freezer!

Prepping peaches for the freezer:
I cut a small cross in the bottom then plunged them in boiling water for 30 seconds:

then into an ice bath:

the colour is amazing after they have been peeled - they have red flesh near the skin - I think they are an heirloom variety - they are old trees and not anything I've ever seen in the supermarket.

I cut them into peices and took out the seeds and then spread out flat to freeze quickly:

With all the red it was a bit of a bloodbath

Just roughly counted them and there are about 36 so definitely half a year as I use about 1 bulb a week and some are small.

Finished up the garlic last week so got about 5.5 months of garlic - not bad for a late planted not fantastic harvest
