Redecorating

Postby Fayesmum » Sat Apr 02, 2011 9:46 pm

Were looking to redecorate the living room and our bedroom... I'd like to do some sort of a feature wall for both with wallpaper. We have literally a blank canvas with both rooms cause they are cream at the moment

I've seen this for the living room and have a sample - it's really quite nice

I also quite like this http://www.diy.com/diy/jsp/bq/nav.jsp?a ... egories%3C{9372013}%2fcategories%3C{9372032}%2fcategories%3C{9372139}%2fspecificationsProductType%3dfloral_wallpaper%2fspecificationsSpecificProductType%3dblue__green___yellow_wallpaper&fh_refview=lister&isSearch=false

And I've seen these curtains tonight whist browsing

I don't really have a clue though, should the curtains be plain if there will be a patterned wall? I've just picked out what I like tbh :giggle: Would that colour scheme be too cold? Haven't thought about paint for the other walls but probably beige to tie in with the paper but nothing majorly dark cause it isn't a huge room.

Thinking greens for our room, but one at a time :hohoho:

Any differing opinions welcome please

Its a matter of taste tbh I don't think there's a right or wrong. Professional interior designers would always use more than one print/ pattern in a room but tbh honest unless they are from the same range I wouldn't risk it.

Where I have a feature wall I prefer the pattern to match the soild walls IYSWIM otherwise I think it can be a bit bland. So if you have cream walls I'd go for a teal background with a cream colour pattern rather than the other way round. You could then pick out the third colour (minky brown IIRC) in your curtains.

However if you want something more subtle then I'd go for the wallpapers you have shown but try to match the background exactly then have plain teal curtains.

In my living room I have a brown and metallic feature wall with beigy pink walls and a darker dusky pink chimney breast - sounds awful but it works! EEverything else is fairly neutral tho and the curtains match the background of the wallpaper.

I also have a feature chimney breast in the bedroom, wedgewood blue walls with Laura Ashley Erin wallpaper in pink (pink hydrangeas on a cream background with gold leaves) that works too.

I'm no expert but I do think that its best to steer away from too much matchy matchy (not that you were!)

ETA - Dulux have some nice feature wallpapers where they show you the colours that they would pick out to go with them, check out their latest colour card or they may have it online

We have a feature wall in out living room and bedroom and the curtains don't match (I am filled with horror memories of ex mil's spare room where even the lamps matched the duvet and curtains lol) but they have the same colours, I love our bedroom wall paper, we did the diningroom recently as well and it is a gorgeous deep purple wall paper.
Just go for what you want, doesn't have to match just compliment I think x
