Do I need liners?

Postby angelicfruitcake » Fri Oct 22, 2010 4:26 pm

I've just received my first load of cloth nappies in the post, various types, brands, some new, some preloved etc etc. My LO is almost 6 months, BF so has very runny poos....usually at least 2 a day. I cold rinsed a nappy and booster by hand and then chucked it in the machine [at 60, with detergent, it was a new BG] but it still has stains on :( I usually use one of those "active oxygen" stain removers which you add to the wash, is it best not to with nappies?

Is it a good idea to get some nappy liners while he's still doing such runny poos? I have some pretty nappies I don't want to ruin!

Thanks :)

I think linners would be a perfect solution!

I wouldn't advise using the oxi stuff, you will get a build up in your nappies and they will become less absorbant.

I'd go for fleece or minky linners.

The best way to get a stain out, is to put the nappy in the sun

I second fleece or minkee liners, I prefer minkee.
What is you wash routine?

Thanks, I'll get looking :)

At the moment I've just handwashed the pooey ones cold and then machine washed them all hot, but I've not made the switch full time yet [don't have enough nappies, although I had another seven arrive yesterday] :) so I haven't bothered doing a machine rinse/pre-wash. Should I be pre-washing wet ones too?

I pre-rinse everything (wet and poopy)...I set the machine to rinse (cold) and then wash at 60oc, making sure that im using enough detergent...I also add an extra rinse at the end to make sure all the detergent residue is out (i use a full dose becuase we have hard water) :)

Thanks, hard water here too. Is it ok to use liquid detergent or is powder better?

The stains should fade over time, I've never bothered with liners but if the stains bother you it would be a good solution :D
