What does tomato allergy/intolerance rash look like?

Rhys has always been a bit of a spotty baby, he was born with a spot on his chin and ever since then he gets them regularly on his chin and cheeks. But I kind of linked it recently (so I thought) partly to using dispo wipes to wash his face sometimes (you know the story, you buy them to use when you're out and then just end up using them til they're gone   ). I've been only using reusable wipes on his face for the last while and his skin has been really good. But yesterday DH brought in the last of our cherry tomatoes from the greenhouse and we all shared them. About half an hour later Rhys had what looked like pimples all over his chin and cheeks. The only thing I can think it is is the toms. It looked like zits, but without the head, iykwim. Does it sound like it to you?

I feel terrible as we eat tomatoes all the time, either fresh or in pasta sauces or whatever, we'd eat them almost daily and I never ever linked the two, I thought he was just spotty (for 2 bloody years    ). It just so happens that the last few days he hasn't had tomato and has had his face washed with proper wipes so it cleared up. I feel so guilty.

Sounds like what Isabelle used to get with tomatoes and oranges and egg whites and also dispo wipes...

Thankfully she's grown out of the food intolerances pretty much but if we use dispo wipes on her face too often she gets very spotty round her mouth/chin...

We basically avoided tomatoes and acidic foods and every so often tried her again...

She was ok with baked beans before she was ok with raw tomatoes... I think because they're such a processed form of tomato they're not so bad...

Don't feel bad - intolerances like this are hard to spot as it's not always an immediate reaction and don't come up the same as a food allergy...

It could well be that if you avoid them for him for a good year or so (try him again after 4-6months to test)

Thanks. Is there any point in taking him to a doc to have it officially diagnosed (or can I save myself the €50 and just try again in a while?)?

I definately wouldn't bother, over here they very rarely actually "diagnose" allergies or intolerances in young children as they are so likely to grow out of it. Unless it is a very severe reaction that could be life threatening, I would just leave it and try again in a few months.

I wouldn't bother either. Hannah still gets it now and shes 6 but its not as bad as it used to be and only if shes had a large amount of acidic things.
