Confused newcomer!

Postby Rach » Fri Jan 01, 2010 11:17 am

Hello everyone,

I live in Sussex (UK) and am due my first baby on 1 March. I just joined the forum and have already bought 7 nappies!

I'm hoping to build up my stash and get lots of advice (and give it eventually!).

Happy new year.

Hi

I bought 5 (!) pre-loved bumgenius V3 and 2 XS Sandys.

I've also bought (elsewhere) 2 new Teddies first size, 2 small Nature babies wraps, 3 bamboo boosters, 2 bins and 2 meshes!

I've also been given some pre-folds, one-size Motherease (look huge!), 2 small pro-raps and a bigger ME wrap.

Hoping to use real nappies from birth.

Can I ask a few questions please? :-
1. How many nappies/wraps do I need for a newborn?
2. What nappies/wraps?
3. Would you recommend muslins for a newborn or is it too "faffy"?
4. How do I keep the meconium away from my lovely napies?!
5. Whats your fave nappy for a small baby?

Phew, long mail. Hope I'm not being too demanding.

I'm sensing an addiction coming on

Hi Rach,
I am also a newcomer, due in April :pregnant: - so you have a head start on me but I am also becoming quite addicted!
I have got a few bits and bobs coming in the post so am looking forward to getting a whole bunch of gorgeous nappies. I found the nappy lady site first and used that to get advice from about the number of nappis that you need to see you through.
With regards to the meconium, might some disposable inserts help for a few days? My friend has just donated her stash of bambino mios for me to use, although I have heard they aren't that good :(
Really looking forward to getting a whole heap of advice and some bargainous preloveds to boot!
Take care and let me know how you get on with your stash!
Aimee

For newborn i used 10 terry squares and 10 little lambs, that was enough. I dont know whetehr muslinsa would be absorbent enough? Maybe just get some cheap terries for the meconium stage then it doesnt matter.

XS nappies sound good for a newborn we had little lambs size 1's and they were bulky but very functional. Terries and xs wraps i liked at first we used the jo fold and just folded the nappies ready before needing them so not too much faff. Used nippa's to fasten them. We used modern baby cottonsbottoms, mio soft wraps and little lambs wraps.

I like BG! cannot remember when my bubs first went i them tho :| I love ittis but didnt get a good fit with smalls because we got leg gape (this varies though not every one gets that and we love love love ittis now in size large) Also love weenotions nappies now.

There are so many nappies out there, lots of trail and error. Have fun xxx
