Look what we got today :D

Postby Mareth » Sat Apr 28, 2012 8:53 pm

:yahoo: DH and his mate went and picked up our Eglu today, along with some other bits and bobs to go along with it. It's great, and much bigger than I expected.

Can't wait to get it set up and actually get some chooks in it

We have one too, they're totally fab, easy to clean out and fox proof - we've left ours just in the run when we've been away for an evening and the fox hasn't got them.

When are the cooks coming?

Not sure exactly Louisa, need to get the old dog run cleared and then bark put down. The eglu is a bit dirty too :-? I thought it'd be cleaned. So it'll need to be cleaned properly before I put anything in it, just in case of mites etc.

Some time in the next month anyway. She threw in a bag of grit and a chicken keeping book. The only thing we need to get now apart from the birds, is some food and some disinfectant type things (I think, there's probably something I've forgotten)

THey don't take much to look after them - get some mite dust stuff too and some worming pellets. I always have some apple cider in too as its a good pick me up for them if you put a teaspoon in their water bowl - might help them settle in quickly if they are travelling far to come live with you.

Have you decided how many you are getting and what types?

So excited for you......trust me though you'll be fobbing eggs off on everyone. There's only so much baking you can do :giggle:

Ah well, cillit bang is nice and easy to get then
We're torn between hybrids and RIRs. I think we're leaning towards the RIRs in honesty.
