I'm thinking about ordering from Etsy or Hyena cart - could someone advise me if the post prices they advertise (typically $5 to 'anywhere else') is accurate? It seems a bit cheap when I've just bee charged $12 for three fairy hammocks. Also, are packages subject to customs charges? Thanks

I'm holding off on Etsy and HC at the moment due to the extremely poor exchange-rate, the rate you get through paypal is shocking :? I know there are some UK sellers on there but I don't want to be paying for anything in dollars at the moment!
You're best sending a message to the seller to check before you buy really...
Have you checked out folksy?

Customs charges seem random although the bigger parcels are more likely to be stopped than the smaller ones, I've only ordered from the US a few times in the past and not had a parcel stopped but the custom co-op I got involved in for Isabelle and bump's dreamscapes was stopped and customs did have to be paid...

It depends on what you buy and how the seller posts the item. Usually I pay $8 - $10 for First Class and £11.95 for Priority although have paid less for small items such as fairy hammocks or crawler covers. You should pay customs charges but I have been lucky so far and none of my parcels have been stopped by customs. I think it's generally larger items that get stopped.

shouldnt they be free of customs if item plus postage comes to under £18,
i' was just over recently £20 and got hit with £9ish customs/royal mail fee and it was a small parcel and took 4 weeks to arrive - its really put me off buying from USA

I've been very lucky and never had a parcel stopped. I will always email or PM the seller. They can give you more accurate postage prices. I've even had one lady get a quote on postage, paid her, then when she went to send it it was less that she was quoted, so she refunded the difference.
With the exchange rate at the moment, you might want to look at http://www.ozebaby.com.au/allstores.php
which is an Australian one. Even if something is sold out, you can contact the WAHMs, and some are able to do custom spots.

I just ordered some nappies from HC, in the post-Thanksgiving sales - one set of 2 with a prestated international rate of $5 (woohoo!), and the other just said email for postage, and the woman said it'll cost $8.85 for one nappy! I thought it was lined with bamboo velour, not lead! She'd estimated $7 though and didn't make me pay the extra - will see what the stamp actually says when it arrives though as I always seem to get overcharged with stuff coming from the States. :?
