But i still think you should get some wool and teach yourself to knit I find it quite relaxing in the evening watching telly and the sense of achievement you get when you try the finished longies on is fab! I couldn't knit at all up until a couple of months ago!

I was getting really confused with the purl stitch then i discovered a friend of mine could knit so i asked her to show me.I find it easier to watch someone else actually doing it. I also found once i had mastered the two basic stitches (knit and purl) you can pretty much pick up every thing else as you go along.

The internet is fab for learning too especially if you find tutorials with video's!

Yes I woudl echo that - I have knitted since I was a kid but whenever I look at instructions in books on how to knit I can't make it out! You will surely find someone who can knit if you ask around

I want to learn to crochet but I'm having the same trouble with that - can't work the instructions out on the book, and my Mum was never into it

Mind you, I can't imagine crochet longies would quite do the job!
