Nappy changes

Postby Soupdragon » Mon Mar 02, 2009 3:39 pm

Over the past few weeks Iris has really started to crawl properly. Now she's fully mobile, nappy changes are becoming something of a nightmare. At the moment, changing goes something like this:

Take off soft shoes (I keep them on her feet all day to keep her warm)
Iris pulls off her socks
Iris rolls off change mat and tries to crawl off
Put baby back on mat
Take off trousers
Iris turns over and tries to crawl off
Turn baby back - unpopper vest
Iris tries to turn over
Restrain child with foot while undoing nappy and removing it
Iris turns over and tries to crawl off
Clean up Iris from the back
Turn Iris over and clean up the front
Iris turns over, so I let her air dry for a bit while she has a crawl
Turn Iris over again and try and put nappy underneath her. Iris rolls over and tries to crawl off. Repeat this step about 10 times.
Restrain right way up Iris with foot and put nappy on
Iris rolls over
Fasten up vest on wrong way up Iris
Put on trousers while child is trying to crawl off
Try and relocate socks
Try and relocate baby (she's normally crawled off somewhere while I find the socks)
Reunite baby with socks
Iris turns over and tries to crawl off
Put shoes on Iris while she's crawling
Despair

DH is point blank refusing to use fitteds, as he can't be bothered with the extra hassle of trying to get a wrap on over a nappy. And poppered nappies are being reached for less and less (by both of us), as it's just too difficult to get Iris to lay still and have them fastened. I've tried poppering them up and then putting them on her, but the fit's usually awful. And Iris can't stand on her own yet, so it's not a great solution as I'm then trying to juggle a baby and a nappy.

So any tips about how to make nappy changes easier? Thanks

We have a Rabbitt Mat which is a godsend, strap them in and it saves an awful lot of stress :D

:giggle:
Sounds like our house. I change Kaydi on my knee and give her something to hold.

Annette, thank you! That looks perfect! Just what we need. Nappy changes are definitely getting stressful (which sounds silly, but they are) - I find myself trying to reason with a 9-month-old.

Am going to go and Google it now.

I get the nappy on dd the best I can whilst she's crawling away, then put her on my lap to finish off. Also. singing will often keep her still enough to get a nappy on.
