Bamboo vs Hemp

Hello! Well we have definatly decided that cotton and microfibre are not enought absorbancy for Elouise, even in daytime and to be honest, I am a bit lazy with changing during the day (bearing in mind at every nappy hange we have screaming, tantrums, biting, you name it!) so don't want to do it more often than I need to!

Anyway, I wanted to know if there is much difference between the absorbancy in Hemp and Bamboo? We get on quite well with hemp BUT we live in a hard water area and don't tumble dry. We do have a drier but we try not to use it, espeially when we get nice days where the nappies could be outside. Bamboo seems to be doing quite well too but it is hard to work out if it is lasting as long as the inserts are completly different. Seems to be soft enough from the line though with bold 2in1 tablet.

One thing I tried this morning was an easy peasy hemp with a PD bamboo insert on top which seem to last for quite a long time but I am trying to keep things as slim as possible and it also depends what nappy we are using. This was in a BG I think.

Our EH nappies are just rock solid - and am I right in thinking I still need to boost with something quick to absorb because it is hemp?

At night we are needing an awful lot of layers and her bum is HUGE. Got our UDNN today in french soy so will be praying that works! But i have never seen another french soy nappy? Is it a new thing? Exclusive to UD maybe?

We will soon have a newborn too and wondering what will work best for her. Do you think there is any point using hemp or bamboo for tiny babies? I wouldn't think they would need as much absorbancy? I want to be prepared! I have tonnes of MF and cotton boosters and inserts that I am thinking of getting rid of but if I can get the use out of them with the newborn then that would be a bonus.

I am always wanting to keep things slim fitting as I hate the big nappy bums!

Bamboo and hemp are both very absorbant but hemp is even more so BUT it is slower to absorb so you need something on top of it, the pd and hemp combo you have been using works really well for us as well. I also got some really slim hourglass bamboo inserts from peachy cheeks (the website isn't the best) they are also really good, I keep meaning to call them to get more. x

Yes I knew you always have to have something on top, which is why I thought it was silly that the ellas house hemp nappies don't come with anything on top. I think for that reason, I wouldn't bother buying anymore of them as it just makes it a PITA to have the nappy, then something on top and then a liner. as well as needing a wrap. Too confusing for DH!

I am looking for some preloved hemp or bamboo inserts and boosters if anybody has any? I have got 10 EP hemp and about 5 PD bamboo and a few blueberry combos so we are not completly short but will soon have 2 babies to think of and have lots of pocket nappies now.

I steer well clear of hemp and go for bamboo every time, I find it really smelly compared to any other fabric and it dries rock solid as you've found. Bamboo dries hard but not that hard.

I wouldn't ever get a hemp nappy but I like using a combo of hemp and bamboo in our pocket nappies. We live in a hard water area and our hemp inserts aren't particularly hard. We use P'tit dessous bamboo inserts with either EP hemp or EH hemp inserts underneath.
