Hand dyed yarn - colour running??

Postby lollipoplizzie » Sat May 02, 2009 9:51 pm

Is it normal for the colour to still be coming out of yarn that's been washed/lanolised five times?

Yes its quite normal. You can soak it in vinegar that will fix it.

Pheew! Thanks for replying. Will the vinegar take the lanolin out?

How much colour is coming out? Is it coming out when you wash or just when it's soaking?

Some colours will bleed a bit no matter how much they are rinsed/fixed. Also some of the fragrance/essential oils in scented lanolin can make colours bleed.

It's definitely when it's soaking but it doesn't take long to start - mind you, I am using scented lanolin, I hadn't realised it caused the colours to come out.

I took some pictures of the most recent time I lanolised (fifth time) - LHS is just plain water obviously!

WSS. A small amount of colour comes out of my woollies every time I lanolise them.

I wouldn't worry too much about a bit of colour loss like that.

WSS, I wouldn't bother. ITs not much at all.
