Grr why do parents interfere???? I'm having issues with PIL about lo having a bottle and "she'd best be off the bottle by 1" - well lo will be off the bottle when we both feel she's ready, end of story! My SIL was trying to pt my nephew who is 2 1/2, but is going to wait until he's 3. I have no experience of this, but would have thought the older they are the more they will understand? I would tell ur mum that her pting ur lo at her house will confuse lo and will make it harder for her.
Bah to interferring families! :x

Id prefer to wait until she is nearly 3 as well, but she does seem to be showing some signs, like telling me before she has a poo, then squatting and doing it, then running around saying "poo!" until i change her nappy. Her evening nappy is almost always dry, (from about 4pm until she gets her night nappy on) and she wants to sit on the toilet like I do! Its almost a tantrum getting her off it sometimes!!

I know that doesnt mean she is ready, and i think it would be far worse to have to get a toddler to a toilet pronto, than have them do it in a nappy. She is still very young, and i don't think she would understand what is going on quite as much as a 3 year old would.

My mum is very set on the idea that she should be potty trained this summer, so if i dont do it she defintely will :-? She even bought Molly her first bike, even though id told her we were going to get her one for her birthday this year. Obviously she means well, and it was very kind of her to buy the bike, but she does interfere a little more than id like!

I think it is really up to you when you train her. I really think your mum should be respecting your decisions, whatever they're about.

I have heard that babies in cloth nappies often train earlier than those in disposables, which seems a bit unkind when cloth nappies are so much nicer than disposables. I think if Blythe was showing signs like that I would get her a potty to try out, but I'd want to be one deciding and doing it, not my mum.

I'm really lucky in that my mum just lets me get on with it, but MIL is another story, I think your about the same age as me, and whilst WIL doesn't think I'm incompetant she thinks oh she's young and I know better, kinda thing, but in the end of the day, you know YOUR daughter best!!

Chelle, IMO, there is no harm in Lyra having a bottle longer, BUT the sooner you take it away the easier it will be, though I know Summer won't be willing to give up her bottle at 1, where as Jak had his last bottle on his first birthday, and never bothered again, and with his dummy, we took it away at 22 months and her was fine, it really depends on the child, but I think taking things away earlier is easier, as they have less opinion on the matter IYKWIM!

I totally agree with Hanna, drives me nuts when ppl, however well meaning, dont back off and think they're right so u must do as hey say. I think u're being very clam about it - something which i am not very good at lol

Hanna - I agree, I just hate being told what to do pmsl!!
Lyra is already showing signs she doesn't want her bottle, often dropping her mid day feed, which is fine. She's doing really well with her TT 'kids on the go' cup, she just used to shake the nuby cup not knowing what to do with it lol. I'm hoping by the time she;s 1 she'll be on a night time bottle only and then gradually wean her off it - I know it's far kinder for her and her teeth. Am also planning on dropping her dummy after 1, again she only uses it for naps and at night - and often it ends up on the floor by morning lol. :)

Please don't take this as me telling you what to do, but I have heard, and this may not be correct, but it came from my aunt who works for sure start, that taking a dummy away from a child before 18 months can increase the chance of SIDS! On another note I will look into those cups as Summer was doing really well with her nuby cups then they all broke (4 of them) and she won't use any other cups, and I refuse to buy more nuby cups!

Yeah I've read that too, so when I say after 1 I didn't mean immediately after :)
The KOTG cups are great, lo is doing really well with them. I still have to hold the cup but she's trying to help me hold it and it doesn't pour everywhere like others can.
ANd don't worry, I know u're not telling me what to do - I was referring to my PIL who really get me down.

Agree with the pp too. You just gain a lot of stress by trying too soon. And it's easy for the child to lose confidence and start holding in poos resulting in pain and further reluctance to poo, nappy or not because it hurts.
My eldest three have all been dry very quickly but I resisted pressure from my mil (dh was p.t at 13 mths apparently, lol!!) who bought my 1st dd knickers at 1 year!!!!!!!!!!! They were given to a jumble sale and I told mil it was too soon - for my dd AND me and that whrn the time came, I'd like the pleasure of choosing her 1st knickers. (I sound awful, but my mil is quite an interferer if left!!)

Stick 2 your guns and enjoy buyng for a while longer!
