I hope the depression doesnt last long...

Could you not put a positive spin on it? I know that is near impossible, and you probably wont even want to contemplate it at this stage, but what about selling (some of) the stash and buying something really nice and special like a sort of keepsake for Kiara with the money? That way you can look back on that and remember the good times?
