I bet it's a case of someone suggesting that disposables might be easier to use whilst getting used to having a newborn with a new routine, getting over birth, etc. as opposed to anything being wrong with putting cloth on a newborn. She's probably just remembered what was said wrongly, especially as she can't remember what was said in full iyswim.

how come u can't use it in hospital beth? or is that personal choice?

I can't imagine DH hulking nappies home on public transport or washing them full stop at the stage and I doubt very much that the hospital will wash them for me. I'd ask if we did the tour again or go and ask the hospital's head midwife to see if it's feasible. She was fab. I can imagine them just saying to wait to get home as they provide newborn disposable nappies there anyway so will have it covered.

That's what I thought as well probably she misunderstood what she was told.

never heard that ... sounds like rubbish to me! Surely if anything newborn skin is more likely to react to being covered in plastic & chemical than a natural fibre like organic cotton or bamboo for example?

All the midwives, Dr's, HV's and GP's that have seen Rufus in cloth have never had a negative word to say about cloth, a few have even been really interested

Rufus had skin to skin til his cord stopped pulsating, then DH cut it & it was clamped, then he fed & after about an hour he was weighed, measured, nappy put on etc & was wrapped up so as not to get cold while I went for a quick bath as they needed the delivery room.

amanda-taliesin was my first non scbu baby, so it was all very much new to us with him. i think they older ones were more laid on a nappy as opposed to having one proper put on, but they were all quite early see.

beth-true i had toy'd with the idea of using sposies in hospital then cloth at home. i have room to change my mind if i want to obviously, but i thought if i do use cloth then a wetbag taken home each night would be up to sy's limits, hopefully!

I wonder if she is confused with the can only use cotton wool and water for the first month, and no wipes?

thanks girls...i thought it sounded odd and wasnt quite right to be honest. the next baby will be my third c section so we tend to stayin hospital a few days instead of going straight home so i will be using disposables in the hospital as my dp has no idea what to do in regards to washing nappies ect and as this time he will have himself and the two kids at home to sort out i want to make things as simple and easy for him as i can without throwing cloth nappies into the mix....poor ethan may well end up in disposables for those few days too at home just to make it easier for dp. once i get home i will have them both in cloth.
besides i dont even know what our hospitals policy is to be honest on cloth...i would certainly hope they would support cloth but you never know.
thanks again, next time i speak to her i will gently mention it as shes also ttc her next baby.
