You've clearly never had serious fit issues - how lucky that cheaper nappies fit your babies well.
Remember babies come in different shapes and sizes - those with allergies or reflux can often have very bloated and big bellies which can cause big fit issues too...

I've yet to find a plain/cheap side snap nappy...

Nothing to do with look - nappies falling off aren't good as that causes leaks and rubbing/soreness - sure it doesn't look great either...

Terry cloth (whether bamboo or hemp) causes rashes in our house no matter how big/soft the liners...

I'm glad it's not just me! The only one I know of is Motherease Sandies and while I have a size 2 on the way to us to try I'm pretty sure the rise is going to be too short. I've been looking for any others to try and can't find a single one!

I forget about motherease sandies - they're quite a rough material aren't they :?

I quite fancy trying bamboo sandys for Kerr - they would be great under wool I think :D

ooh yes I did try a bamboo sandies on kieren when he was little and didnt like it but it might be worth another shot :) Im just falling in love with plain, simple nappies :)
