That's the figure that most often crops up. I think because newborns grow like weeds, so you don't want to end up with a whole heap of stuff that's quickly outgrown. Best to buy more mediums later on, rather than too many smalls early on. Particularly if you're expecting a large bub. Looking back over the newborn nappy review post I did, we had 35 or so nappies, but some of those were flats - and I never used those as I was useless at origami on a wriggling baby. :hohoho:

I bought 24 flats and 3 wraps and that was fine for us until he was a year old, then I switched to fitteds and pockets as I was fed up trying to nippa a wriggling baby :giggle:
