I own over 30 DNF's and none of mine have gone crunchy :-?

Some of my older medium's have gone bobbly and harder cos they are jersey but i can always get them softer by throwing them through the tumble at low for 20 mins

Are you in a hard water area? Mine are like that because of our hard water :( Quick blast in the tumbler apparently, I'd like to know if there's any other way to keep them soft though.

Mine do this and we don't live in a hard water area - quick blast in the tumble is the only way for us

How odd then?

Do you have drier balls? I use wool ones, but perhaps they could do with a good bash with some of those spikey plastic ones?

Worth a shot .. you could get some cheapy plastic ones for now & maybe buy some yummy wool ones later, I had 2 from Felt Fushion (instocks from Jabula) and recently got 2 custom ones from Shadow, they are lush and even have the boys names on :D
