i have definately responded to trends. I started with 25 motherease onesize. The prettiest nappies i saw at the time were rainbow bots and i honestly couldn't understand why you would want to buy coloured nappies!

But then i got lured into a whole new world and went through phases depending on what was new or popular. I really remember when blueberries were released and the real fuss that was made - they were probably one of the first minkee nappies that people saw and ordering them was akin to people ordering the latest Iphone (honestly i think it was) and i think regardless of costs, many people 'had' to have this latest nappy :giggle:
I was lucky with both mine that we got on with most things so could combine trends with functionality. But trends and prettiness can only really go so far before you have to plump for functionaliy. We are lucky that we have access to a wide range of pretty AND functional nappies, often at reasonable prices.

If pretty nappies weren't available, then as demonstrated , i would still have used cloth due to concerns over waste.

I don't really understand the discussion of ec in this context. Money would not have prevented me using cloth, i bought my set of ME for about £50 and this could have got me to pt'ing with charlotte as whe was still wearing them (don't know about ben as we haven't got there yet) and i am sure if i hadn't had that money, i would have gone for a cheaper option or maybe made something myself. I wouldn't have used disps (more expensive and too much waste) and i wouldn't have chosen ec, even if i had known about it because as a busy working mum it is just not something that fits in with my life.

In answer to OP yes there are def trends! especially with brands and fabrics.Dunk and fluff is a real CNT thing, often other forums haven't heard of it. There was an ooga thing going on and the GHMILY fabric seems to be a trend (although i really don't get it!) hungry caterpillar is another one. Everything gets fancier and fancier like bamboo velour thats quite luxurious compared to basic terry.

If people ask me though(newbies) I tell them about terries and basics like LL. Most people are interested in the value nappies first then some will get sucked into fancy nappies later. I started out with terries and LL, If I have another baby I will use them again for newborn with just a handful of pretties. I did manage to convert a total newbie from sposies onto ittis and WN though  :giggle:

I never thought i would get into fancy fitteds and wool :giggle: but i did! I have a pretty fancy stash now  although it has taken me 2 yrs to build it up and after you take off what i have sold 2nd hand cloth for I have spent about 300 and that was spread out over the 2 years so even if your on a tight budget you can still do fancy

If there were only terries available I would def still use cloth becasue that is what i started with anyway.

Also to add to the topic further there are trends in other areas, e.g on here its cloth obviously but on natural mama's its fancy slings. (ok i know i have 3) :lookround: but on there they have big trends on slings and have seen some 2nd hand for 100 pounds so most certainly fancy.

sorry bit waffly!

I think i'm following a trend right now weehuggers :hohoho: or is that just me :lookround:
I think the fabrics are the biggest trend, when I started out 11 years ago it was terry or flanelette, then cotton prefolds, now there are so many different fabrics  I have my favourites bamboo fleece and velour and now wool interlock :giggle:

hmmmm. yes and no. i have a thing for colour, be it in the kids clothing or in the nappies really. the colour really is a bonus. as for trends etc, dunk n fluff work amazingly fitteds wise, always have for us and my custom obv order is always in use, i can rely on them no matter what. i can't rely on pockets, i might give prefolds a go, and i blame tory for that entirely!lol but things like lls nappies are my staple night nappy, i can't get on with wn without t's bum being inches off the bed and he looks like a turtle on it's back! we basically go with easyfits as they fit both boys, dunk n fluff for fitteds and lls for nights although i have a few day ones too. the night nappies are important for me to get right as i hate the rabbit hutch smell. i don't get this with lls ever, i did all the time with the massive wn, i find lls gives me alot of choice and more so in the natural fabrics i need for t's really sensitive skin, between fitteds, and interlock this is they bulk of t's stash.

itti trifolds though make fantastic boosters for my easyfits i find!

I definatly think there is. Anyone remember the fuss over GMs??? I paid £35 for one from the US and that was preloved  and we never actually got on with fitteds  :hohoho: but he would wear it for maybe 2 hrs without a cover on so i (at the time) thought it was worth it lol. I didnt even manage to get any money back on it as it still appears to be lost in the RM system a year on :giggle: It was fab tough BUT i bought GMs for GMs sake ( if you know what i mean?) they totally werent pratical for us at all but loved the look of them. Ittis i loved and they worked for us they were fab and it was blueberrys wn and ittis that made me carry on using cloth, i probably wouldnt have been that bothered if it was just dull boring nappies, saying that i did start with wonderoos but they were nice and bright and bgs too loved them :D

Oh and i would show off his nappies to everyone :giggle:

Enviromental issues were thought of too i have to add  but i also just really enjoyed that they looked nice :giggle:

Also i think its ok if people get in to cloth for the look of it as it all helps towards a better environment

Yes there are trends. What happens is someone tries on, likes it, posts about it on a forum, there's a rush to have a look at the product then they're all the rage for a while till someone moves on to something else.

We know when someone's posted about eg bamboo Sandys because suddenly we'll quadruple sales over the weekend compared to the previous one. Or someone raves about the Cherrylicious print EasyFit and we have a rush on them.

Well i used flat terries and plastic pants for sasha and Bambino mios for Keane and Acacia, so i think you could say i'd use cloth even if it wasnt pretty :hohoho: :hohoho: :hohoho:

But i've definitely seen trends come and go, even in the short time since i've been a member on here. I guess once you discover the world of pretty nappies it is a fashion thing, you dress your kids to look nice so why should their nappies be any different??? But i wouldnt "collect" pretty nappies if they didnt suit Indiana. Having said that, i've got a stacker full of ittis i can't use because she is now out-peeing them, i just havent got round to listing them on classifieds yet :giggle: But i wouldnt buy more just because they look nice when i know they dont work anymore iygwim.
