Nappies looking mildewed, but they can't be?!

Postby BobbyM » Fri Oct 01, 2010 12:49 pm

A few of my pop-ins and BGv3s are coming out of the wash with greyish mottled stains where they had BF poo on.

They get dry pailed and I wash every day, so they aren't left dirty for long enough for mildew to set in surely? I wash them on a cold rinse cycle first, then a 40 wash with a small amount of non-bio powder. I tried a 60 wash last time to see if that helped but it was no better.

Help!

hmm if it's mildew or moudly spots i'd be treating the affected area with a *very* weak bleach solution to kill off any nasties then washing again. but that is fine for whites, but not so good on your colours. are u drying them properly? because i've in the past, thought a nappy was dry but inside the fibres haven't been completely dry. if stored this way it could account for a bit of mildew. in theory.

Hmmmm, it definitely appeared when they first came out of the wash rather then after storage.

Its also only on the dream-dri pop-ins (both inserts and shells), and the liner of the BGs. So only on non-natural fibres.

:-?

calpol stains don't look like mildew though?

I'd agree but my first thinking when I first saw brown/black stains on my nappies was mildew, but I'm now a pro at spotting calpol stains

ah, i'm not so up on calpol (never used it) we've used baby paracetamol from over the counter, calpol used to send the older ones hyper! :giggle:

is it the same for the white stuff u get from the docs though?

apparently according to the 'guru's' on here its only the coloured calpol that stains. I use a mixture of everything so i have no idea what is actually causing the stains, but I know when lockie is teething his nappies turn black, and rileys don't (she won't let me give her anything!)
