I agree, very short sighted! Our council scheme only gave cashback worth £30 but it was a big help. We managed to get 6 prefolds and a decent wrap for free which was a big help when we were building our stash on a budget.

I hope it doesn't put people off trying cloth - but I fear it will.

I tried to get Stockport council to fund a nappy lending library. I offered to organise it and administer it. I figured the few hundred £s it would cost to set it up would be well spent - they wouldn't go for it though The waste management ladies made all the right noises but when it came down to spending money

Im not surprised TBH - when i had Scarlett the hospital had NEVER seen cloth used on a newborn and my MW & HV said they had only seen a handful of people use cloth in 'modern times' (none as fancy as i mine i might add )

Its just not worth the expense to the council to provide it if people arent going to use them or dont continue using them - their landfill bill doesnt go down so why give it away in the first place

Such a shame but i dont find it surprising given that Burnley has one of the highest teen pregnancy rates in the country and, whilst im not saying that all teen mums wont use cloth, those that i do know of (for example my 18yr old niece who is due in Jan) wont even consider it as its just not a priority in their minds and they dont know enough or arent willing to read about the benefits etc.

I was a teen mum (all for 3 weeks ) and i wanted to use cloth from when i was about 6 weeks pregnant (i know you werent generalising teen mums BTW but im rather proud of being more open minded about things that non of my friends would even consider)

Its such a shame
I work for LCC and as staff member on our Intranet we have cheif execs blog - they were discussing the change in waste management and i mentioned that the scheme could do with expanding and promoting as there was so little info available about it!

So many other staff members responded saying they wished they had known about it as they would have used cloth themselves but were put off by the big outlay and would have used the vouchers to start a small stash to try it out.

Such a shame - again its all about promotion and getting the word out!

One midwife i had said she didnt think they made cloth nappies anymore!
