How do you pre-wash new nappies?

Postby charlibunny » Fri Jan 21, 2011 8:49 pm

I have 5 BN dunk and fluff and 5 OWW brand new nappies for bump. I want to pre-wash them a few times to up the absorbancy.
What temp do i wash at, does it have to be a 'proper' wash? Do i use wash powder? Also when it is out the wash do i need to dry before washing again? Also how many pre washes would you reccomend for BV?

Ok i am done asking questions, can you tell i have never had brand new nappies ever??

I just bung them in with a nappy wash. Never really though about it before tbh!
I only actually do that once though then I boost until up to full absorbancy.

I don't  Just put them straight on and either boost or change more often the first few times.

Just wash them like you would any other nappy wash ;) You can put them in with your others :)

I *think* bamboo takes 3-4 washes to get to proper absorbancy, but i just did my wee nappies once before they went in the hopsital bag.

Its more like 8-10 for bamboo I think, 3-4 is for cotton.

Ah maybe i shouldn't bother then. I bet it will reduce the value too because i think i might sell the dunk and fluff's not sure yet. I can't stick them in with a normal nappy load, there is 20 nappies + in each load and that's every other day. She pee's way too much!

I add them to a nappy wash. I do tend to pre-wash new nappies purely to get rid of any manufacturing residue, I don't know where the fabric has been, then it's been handled while being sewn etc.
