How many nappies for a newborn??

Postby flutterby » Tue Jun 10, 2008 2:58 pm

my stash is pretty substantial, I have plenty of nappies right through the sizes, BUT I only have 20 from birth to 15lb (Jak was 15lb by 10 weeks) I really don't want to have to wash every day, do you think this will be enough for 2 days and washing/drying time! I can wash and dry a couple of nappies in about 2hrs in an emergency!

I find that 20 isn't enough for washing every 2 days but then I don't have a tumble dryer so it can take a day or two for them to dry! I would normally recommend 20-30 for a newborn. You can always see how you get on and order some more if you need to.

Cheers that is what I was thinking, I have other nappies, I could fold down and nippa in an emergency too, but not sure I'd get a wrap over them, hehe! Or clothes for that matter! I've found some old rainbow tots bots size 1 for £5 each was kinda tempted to get a couple!

We did with 21 nappies for Kayleigh from when she was 0 - 6 months. We washed every second day and tumble dried everything. However now I am working with about 30 nappies, and find that a much better number, gives me time to dry nappies outside when I get the notion.

Ben got through up to 12 nappies per 24 hours from birth to about 5 - 7 months old, so we needed 36 to see us through as we don't have a drier to wash every other day. But then that was using tiny nappies and size 1's not BTP as they were mainly too big.

(There was a time aged nearly 4 months he got through 3 nappies in 1 1/2 hours, and other times it was 3 in 3 hours, so always useful to have a few spare!)
