Hi Sophie and Monsterm

My boy is 10 months old. He doesn't seem to be a heavy wetter but he sleeps for 12 hrs at night so I think I will stick with disposables at night for now. It's just so much easier. I've already bought loads from the classifieds!

Monsterm, I think may you're right - I need more nappies but I can't really afford it! I guess I should mix cloth with disposables until I build up my stash? I bought some lovely wool soakers from classifieds but my boy had one on for about 10 seconds and his skin broke out in a rash. He has very sensitive skin. I was going to sell them but I can't figure out how to put a pic in the ad on my phone!

I will try to get some of the inserts recommended.

Thanks, ladies, I feel better already. It helps to have some encouragement. My partner works away so I'm on my own with the kids and this week I just feel a bit fed up

Hi again Kirsty

I've been putting the fleecy part of the liners next to my baby's skin. Do you think that's what's causing his nappy rash? He never got nappy rash with disposables.

I honestly have no idea what I'm doing. I feel so bad now that I might have been doing it wrong and have caused the rash

What should I put next to his skin?

As pp said steer clear of night nappies till you've figured out what works best in the day! All wraps leave horrible marks on my tiny's so we stick to pockets, baba &boo, eBay cheepies, tb&tb amoungst others. I brought a trial pack with smartipants, flip and another I can't remember and hated them all whilst others swear by them so it's all about what works best for you!

I don't think you'll ever save money with cloth (unless you steer clear of all temptation) so you have to be in it for other reasons, environmental, cute factor, etc!

I only wash every other day and I have three in cloth so unless you have a super super wetter you should be able to leave it longer than every day, we're on a pre payment card too so I can actually see how much each wash costs and it's not as much as you think, I air dry or line dry, weather permitting, everything (may give them 10 mins in tumble dryer come winter)

Unfortunately it's all trial and error sweets and there are bound to be some disappointments along the way only you can decide if you want to carry on or not and whichever you choose is fine, if you choose to go back to sposies you'll be doing it for the right reasons for you an at least you've given cloth a shot which is more than most do!!

Oh and just to add fleece liners are a must, I was devastated when my new nappies started to get stained but if it's just the fleece, which is cheep enough to replace when it gets too stained then it's not so bad and your nappies say nice and new looking

It could be the fleece, we had to switch to minkee liners as fleece gave G a red scald like bum x

Sounds like you may want to change the nappy more often. And get a few more nappies . Some bums are just sensitive to wet with or without a fleece liner. We dont always use them but we change frequently.

I'll try some minkee liners too.

I'm changing every couple of hours. Today he soaked through an easyfit boosted with fleece after an hour and a half. If I have to change more often than that, I'll chuck it. It's just too much like hard work for me, I'm afraid. I'll give the inserts a try, though

Using a fleece liner won't boost the absobency, it acts as more of a stay dry layer between baby and nappy. With the easyfits you can stuff extra padding down the back pocket where you fold the insert into (have been known to just an old flannel if I can't find anything else to hand) but like pp have said bamboo, hemp and zorb are best. We used to sometimes have leaks in our easyfits from the top and it drove me mad! I found I wasn't quite getting them done up right. Which settings do you have the poppers on? Could try adjusting them up or down. I find I get a better fit when they are on the middle setting on my daughter (skinny minnie 21months) and worn lower rise. Does that make sense?

as the pp said fleece isn't used to boost absorbency of the nappy but mearly to act as a stay dry layer next to babies skin. Try adding say a little lambs bamboo booster in the pocket of the easyfit.

Don't give up, it is frustrating but when you find what works for you cloth is great. Have you thought about trying wool or fleece instead of a pul wrap?
