Help - Serious Containment Issues!!

Postby becsom » Wed Aug 20, 2008 2:31 pm

Anyone got any advice for a novice?

I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong, but my DD2 (4 months old) has just had two very messy incidents within the space of 30 minutes. First one in a nippa'd WamBamboo (inc booster and fleece liner) + Rikki wrap, then in a Bambinex (aplix with fleece liner) + ME Airflow. Fortunately the wraps contained most of the debris but sooooooo much came out the sides of both 'fitteds' :(

I did think when I was doing the WB that it seemed a bit 'gapey' round the legs, but I couldn't seem to get it any tighter there. She's quite a little baby (6 weeks prem) and prob only about 12-13lb, but I really don't understand how so much poo ended up coming out of the leg-holes of the nappy and hardly any on the liner!?!? And it wouldn't even wash off with the shower-over-the-loo technique - urgh, images of yellow glue-poo engrained in fingernails (sorry, TMI!!)

I'm hoping this is just a particularly bad day, but maybe I haven't found the best fitting nappy for her shape yet. I think a fluffle I used was ok for 'keeping stuff in' but I prefer the slimmness of bamboo atm.

Any suggestions gratefully receieved

maybe try lowering the rise on the nippa one by folding the front down!

Bambinex are higher in the rise than other similiarly sized bamboo nappies (which is great for all of us with taller skinny kids). If you can work out how to lower the rise with the nippa one it will reduce the gaping at the legs.

Agree with trying to lower the rise which should make a neater fit around the legs. Try folding the front bit over, then nippa it. A good fitted nappy I liked when dd was smaller, for containing messy #2's was the swaddlebees one size organic cotton velour - it was the neatest nappy around her skinny legs.

Thanks for the tips - I tried folding the nippa'd one down and it seemed to fit much better. And disposies did used to struggle to contain them anyway so I know my lovely washables are doing a good job :D

I'm trying out a few different kinds at the moment and have found that the fluffles seem to be the 'snuggest' fit - shame I don't like their bulkiness that much. I'm liking the one-sized Bumgenius I bought second hand right now, but they haven't been subjected to a rigorous test yet....

Eviesmummy - now I'm going to have to go and buy a Swaddlebees OS OV aren't I? Now what's that Nappy Train thing again?? :hohoho:
