Glass bottles are not good for expressed milk?

Postby musdih » Tue Jun 23, 2015 5:01 pm

Hi guys

Hope you're all lapping up the vitamin D!!

I have a quick question - I've been looking for glass feeding bottles to feed lo expressed milk as i'm not keen on plastics and well don't want foreign stuff leaching in to my hard work

Ive just come across:

Breast milk should NOT be stored/fed in glass bottles. I know it "seems" safer, but the electrostatic properties of the glass cause the beneficial live cells in breast milk to adhere to the glass and never make it into your baby.

NOW im REALLY confused - can any one offer any wisdom?

Thank you so much XX

Gosh no idea, but will tag @Clothsister and @littlesez who are good at these sorts of questions

Glass bottles are ideal storage for breast milk BUT only fridged milk. You can't freeze them which limits you slightly. X

based on my A level chemistry which is VERY hazy right now glass would be best
but the article i read states the static charge is no good for feeding in either :s

Am i to ignnore it - surely its better than plastic??

You see, the skeptic in me still thinks there'll be other stuff that leaches in to the milk

after all, we were told until very recently hat plastic bottles were absolutely safe

It's so hard to know what to do for the best. Do you definitely want to express? I didn't bother , exclusively bf my three until 1.

well done you!

I'm an exclusive BF'er too but there is the odd time perhaps once a month when I need to leave lo with daddy or grandma for hospital appointments etc
or emergencies
I don't personally believe in training dad to bottle feed at night etc - i know i'm in a miniscule minority there but i have been blessed with a gift (milk supply and bonding) for my lo and i like to utilise it to the maximum
Cloth nappy changes on the other hand....haha!!

maybe ive answered my own question there and i shoulsd stick to what i feel comfortable with as i wont be using the bottles on a regular basis anyway

Sounds like you've cracked it. Occasional use should be ok. Love daddy night nappy changing!! ''Daddy bonding time" ;-)
