Using a 'vintage' pram

Postby epsilon1 » Thu May 02, 2013 8:36 am

My mother still has mine from when I was a baby  so when we visit it would make sense to use at least the carrycot bit for daytime sleeps.

I guess it could do with a new mattress, having been up in the loft for a while... Where do you get them, and is there anything to be aware of? I don't have the measurements to hand.

I know there asre places that will cut foam to size and I wish I had the space for a pram now as Evie would love naps in it. I used to sleep outside in mine :)

My mum has a vintage pram that she uses too. It's gorgeous. Recently, I've bought mattresses from here as they make made to measure and you can get them hinged if the pram sits up too :-)

To be honest, but not sure i would use a pram thats be in the loft for so many years. Id be worried about the insulation fibers being in it, mould and mildew etc. Its a lovely idea, but im not sure id risk it. xx

I used a "vintage" pram. It was great for nap times and I think LO preferred it to his crib for a while. The older ones are really robust and you can give it a good scrub with soapy water and a scrubbing brush to get rid of any unwanteds.

Thanks all :D

New mattress is being ordered, and I'm sure my mother will scrub everything to within an inch of its life. Junior uses my old cot for night-times when we're there (again with a new mattress) and seems ok so far :giggle:

Think pram was last used for one of my cousin's two chuldren who are now aged 24 and 21. Apparently it stll has its parasol and everything, even if the tires are a bit past it.

Our car seat got a mouldy from being in the loft, so we treated it with a soak and scrub in soda crystals, tea tree oil and grapefruit seed extract - apparently all good things for getting rid of mould spores. It also got a wipe down with dettol. That should do it!
