Wrap advice, please...

Postby toothlesswonder » Sat Mar 06, 2010 5:28 pm

I have a gorgeous Peanutshell wrap and we're slowly getting to know each other.

I'm a big busted bugger, and have found tummy to tummy to be the best position for us. We tried the cradle carry, but my boobs got in the way, so tummy to tummy really is best. The only thing is, Tate seems to bury his head right into my cleavage and i'm worried he's going to suffocate

Reassure me that he wont - he can lift his head up on his own - i'm just not very experienced with wraps at all, so any advice would be most appreciated.

I never really got on with wraps to be honest :? Sorry - hopefully someone else can help!

BUT I would say that the main advantage of slinging is that you're so close to your baby you'd know instantly if he wasn't breathing right...

I would check that he's high enough in it, first of all. His bum shouldn't be lower than your navel, and you should be able to kiss the top of his head easily. If that's how he is, you're fine! Also, is he in the 'M' position, sitting with knees above his bum?

Having seen various mis-uses of Baby Bjorn type carriers, that usually involves having LO slung too low, with the head stuck between boobs  So definitely hitch him up if you think that's happening. But if he's just snuggling down a bit while he sleeps etc, not to worry.

This is a good article for baby-wearing safety: http://www.thebabywearer.com/articles/H ... ioning.pdf

I know what you mean, Ruth did that in my cleavage. I never saw it as a problem as it is so easy to check on them. MIL did ask me if I was trying to suffocate her though
