Night time nappy advice wanted

Postby alexhevans » Tue Apr 06, 2010 9:26 pm

My daughter is coming up for 1 and wees massively at night. I've only recently swapped from disposable nappies as she has been in a hip brace (treatment for clicky hips) 24/7 for 4 months and now is in it at night for a further 4 months. This means she is virtually immobile in bed, so wee wicks up the back.
Whereas her old brace didn't give her the space for anything other than disposable nappies, she wasn't a big night time widdler then, so we had no problems. Since she changed to a larger size brace at night time only, she could wee for GB at night, and she ends up damp under the brace. I tried the disposable back to front so gel was at back and that was no use. I 've wanted to use cloth nappies for ages anyway, so I've had her in cotton prefolds with 2 bamboo boosters, and still kept getting wicking onto her Pjs. Some nights we are OK with a shaped bamboo nappy and bamboo booster, but generally I am having to wash her PJs and bedding almost daily because of leakage.

Anyone got any suggestions for a fairly slim fitting but incredibly absorbant night time nappy? Emily is only little, about 8kg, quite narrow but with chunky thighs and a high rise, so fit might be quite awkward! Your thoughts would be appreciated!

I find that Weenotions Night Notions are our most absorbant, relatively slim night nappies.

Ems on here (puddlekins.co.uk) can also customise nappies to suit you, she also makes products for wheelchair users so might be able to make something that would work around your LOs brace.

Have you tried a wool wrap? Although they can cause compression wicking, so if your LO is immobile you might be better with PUL.

I thought about the wool wraps but ruled it out after talking to the local nappy lady - the brace is fitted over Emilys lower back so from what I understand that would cause it to wick through the wool. Will check out your other suggestions though, thanks

I'd second contacting ems on here, she's very friendly and helpful.weenotions night nappies are fairly trim too.not sure whether fleece wraps would work overnight or whether you'd get wicking with those too?

We also get on very well with Wee Notions NN. They are side snapping so you can adjust the legs and the waist to fit. There is also room in the pocket for more stuffing if needed. The plain bamboo ones are very good value at £12.50 if you don't want to spend too much.

As Frances says Puddlekins also make NN that have very good reviews and I believe are very reliable.

I find our Holden's Landing Bedbugs are our slimmest night nappy although I do need to boost them with an extra bamboo/hemp booster. We also use Weenotions Night Notions which are also a fairly slim fit. We haven't tried the Puddlekins NN but they look lovely!!! You could always try boosting between the nappy and wrap at the back as well if that is where you tend to get leaks. If you are looking for bombproof PUL wraps then Motherease Airflows get my vote. Not the most exciting wrap but practically nothing gets through them! :giggle: Hope you find a solution.

Wow this is great, wish I'd thought to post sooner. I'll be doing some research tonight, based on all the advice! Thank you all!
