AGAIN - Night nappies for heavy wetters

Postby tanya » Sat Aug 09, 2008 6:56 am

I know this is a topic which is done to death, but I really need some help with night nappies.

I thought I'd found the perfect one for Bella, which was a Cotton Quick Flip, booster with an Ella's House hemp insert folded in 3 and another small hemp booster. The is covered with either a Couche Cover, or shorites or longies, dependant on the weather. For the last week, the nappy has come off absolutely saturated, I mean it's dripping And her bum is wet to the touch, even though there is a fleece liner in the nappy.

If I boost much more I'm gonna have problems with the rise of the nappy as she seems to need long rise nappies - she wears BGs in the day and they are fully opened up, and she's less than 20lbs.

I have tried in the past:
Huggles - just couldn't get a good fit
Bamboozles - Could not get enough boosting in to last the whole night
Bamboo QF - Different fit to cotton ones?
Bamboo Baby Beehinds - Far too short in the rise
BumHuggers - Didn't work; if I out enough stuffing in, it distorted the shape of the nappy
Drybees Fleece nappy - Useless
NightNotions (Front-snapping) - wasn't a good fit and leaked. Might consider a side snapping one.

I'm sure there are others. My DH was beginning to despair at the number of nappies I was buying to try.

Any ideas on a better night nappy? I have a HL bedbug coming soon - are these any good for heavy wetters?

Thanks

The only ones that are working for us at the minute are the Bumhuggers and side snap Night Notions. I had a Babybufter night nappy which you can get in a high rise, it coped well with Evie who was wetting heavily at the time, but I didnt like the fit and found it very bulky.

Our Bumhugger - Im now boosting with an extra set of inserts for my Itti Bitti and its doing really really well now - and because they are long and slim the nappy isnt bulky or gaping. Perhaps you could play about with your boosting a little? Oh, and if your BHs are applix Im finding them much harder to get a good fit, the popper ones are much better.

Heard very good things about the Jiant nappies but havent ever tried one (sorry). Perhaps Suzanne could advise on the best combo for heavy wetters - our NN is all bamboo which I prefer because it is very soft, but perhaps hemp would be a good option?

I've just sold my BumHugger as I couldn't get it to work. No matter what I put in the pocket, it leaked either because it was overstuffed and distorted, or understuffed :(

I really like the look of the pretty OBV nappies Louise has been buying, but I'm not sure if they will work on Bella and I really can't afford to buy loads of anappies again.

How old are you cotton quick flips, as we have the old originals for nights, and the newer ones for days as I think they changed the rise by an inch.

Cat does (or can do) large cotton which might be worth a try or I think it was Ali (babyroo) who had pink ones for sale from Katie being dry.

What we put in our cotton quick flip fully open an easypeasy hemp, fold in 1 side then a bamboo square folded into lots of layers - it's a jo fold just not opened up to nippa, then fold the last layer and put on.

Having said that Ben out wet this usual combination the other morning and his sleeping bag was soaking - I think he drank too much bathwater.

The nappies which I only fall back on as an emergency at night are the bumble or bambeasy as I can't get these to work as I can't get enough stuffing at the back.

My quick flips are all new, so shorter in the rise. The rise length is good with the amount of stuffing I use currently, but if I add any more, it won't cover her bum!

I just want something which is gonna keep her bum dry. The wetness of the nappy is coming back through the fleece liners and leaving her with a very soggy bum :( and I'm guessing that won't be good for her skin in the long (or short) term.

I think I'll wait for my Bedbug and see how that goes. If it works, I'll order a couple more through the no-stalk list.

AS mentioned in Daily Chat, I have ordered a velour outered NightNotion to try along with the Bedbug :)

I still find my favourite night nappy for Charlotte is a hemp and terry stuffie with its own insert and an added bamboo booster or 2! It even beats my night notions on fit and rise. She has started wetting less now but she went through a phase of outweeing everything and the stuffie was the only one I could add more to.

Unfortunately, I noticed on the 'other' forum that the lady making Stuffies is now stopping, so they'll be even rarer than they are now.

I'm always far too slow to get hold of the hemp/terry ones and I don't think the plain terry ones would work.

I got one as part of a BBM set that I don't really use very often. LMK if you want to try one.
