Neat edges

Postby northernruth » Tue Dec 29, 2009 9:49 pm

So i have got some wool to knit a scarf for martha. I have been slipping the first stitch of the row on my knitting recently to overcome sloppy edges and loose stitches which are a problem for me, but I don't think this will give a good edge on a scarf......am thinking I will do it in moss stitch with a garter stitch border at each end, any suggestions for how I can get the edges to look neat?

You could just knit the first and last stitch on each row

slip the first stitch and knit the last stitch of every row.
block it after finished knitting too - hot iron over a damp cloth.

have you seen the pattern for clapotis on ravelry - i'm on my 4th one - you can do less pattern repeats to make it more like a scarf - but because its knitted on the diagonal its faster than end to end. can use different yarn too - i've used worsted and 4 ply.
