Oh no - could Leo be allergic to wool

Postby sahara » Thu Dec 02, 2010 10:43 pm

Leo has worn wool a little bit here and there during the day - maybe a few hours and then I would go to a pocket. I have now decided I want to go fitted and wool more often, say 70% of the time. So I put Leo in his longies today and he has worn them most of the day and suddenly developed an eczma type rash around his waist and on his legs. Never before though. I am gutted. I have done a test patch with the lanolin and the wool wash and no reaction so guessing it is the wool :(

any ideas or are our wool days over befor they have properly started :(

If they're pre-loved then it could also be that they've had scented lanolin/wool wash used on them so could be that. It might be worth stripping them and re-lanolising in what you you know is ok for him.

Washing up liquid in tepid water, although you might have to wash several times, especially if there is a build up of lanolin. I agree with ladybird that it is much more likely to be some sort of scent, especially as your other woolies are fine. If you aren't able to use scented lanolin, instead of using lansinoh (which works out as being ridiculously expensive for lanolising) go to the chemist and buy a big tub of lanolin (they are about £10 for 500g). Its not food grade (which lansinoh IS which is why you can use it whilst bf'ing), but that doesn't matter if its for woolies.

Okay still getting redness around his legs a bit. But no reaction to any of my scented stuff as I rubbed it straight into hi skin.

I have a new pair of woolies coming so I will go back to the drawing board and use unscented lanolin - what would you recommend for wool wash for very sensitive skin?

thx for the advice so far

x
