Dec's Read -- Skipping Xmas / Xmas Carol

Postby joeli » Tue Jan 05, 2010 7:31 pm

So did anyone read either of these? Which versions of A Christmas Carol did you watch?

I really enjoy Skipping Christmas. I think it's a cute little story. I definitely understand how they could want to skip Christmas. Especially this year, with Leo being so young, it felt like what was the point of putting up the tree and stuff. It's so much work, but I do love it.

I didn't read the Christmas Carol this year (but I have in other years) but we did watch all my favourite movie adaptations. I like the Kelsey Grammer one, the Muppets one, and the Albert Finney one.

I borrowed 'Skipping Christmas' from the library and read it over the Christmas break. I thought it was a good little book (almost a short story really).

I could relate well to the idea of skipping Christmas entirely - so much money and food and over-indulgence for one day. I was totally rooting for them to stick to their guns and go away on their cruise, but had a sneaking suspicion that something would go awry to spoil it! I got so involved that I actually started to get quite annoyed with Luther and Nora for even thinking of changing their plans just because their precious daughter was coming home :giggle: . But I soon warmed to it all with the sweet (if a little cheesy) ending.

Thanks for the suggestion :wine:

sorry this is late

I really enjoyed Skipping Christmas, and can see how it would be appealing to ignore Christmas and head off into the sun. I also got annoyed with Luther and Nora when they changed their plans to please their daughter but I have to say as a parent I would probably have done the same :-?

A Christmas Carol was a joy to read and I also managed to watch a couple of adaptations - although one was the Muppets  A wonderful book.

I really enjoyed these books, both of them helped me to get into the spirit of the season.
