Greenkids Inserts

Hey all
I want to buy 10-15 pocket nappies for a new baby (although I wouldn't start using them on the new baby until he is bigger as I already have a stash of two part newborn nappies!) and an older baby (I have a small 17 month old, and a new baby due in March).
I've done some research, and Greenkids Anytimes seem to have universally good reviews.
The inserts that come with Greenkids are quite expensive, so I was just wondering if I could use other inserts? I would probably buy a few Greenkids ones anyone, but I would struggle to afford 15 GK inserts.
Has anyone had success using other inserts with Greenkids nappies? Is there much difference between brands when it comes to inserts? And do you think using a prefold as an insert would be succesful?
Thanks ladies! x

You can use whatever inserts you like! I'd keep an eye out in the classifieds, as they can be expensive new and also, particularly if they're hemp, I find all the prewashing to get the absorbency up a real hassle (I never have the patience!).

I haven't used Greenkids pockets but have always had good luck with Blueberry OS inserts, they seem to fit in just about anything and the absorbency is good. You can use prefolds too, they may not be the slimmest or most absorbent option but if you have them handy they're a very economical option, and will get the job done!

I use Green Kids Anytimes and Minkytimes and they are brilliant! So cute - and bombproof. I know the bamboo inserts are expensive but they are worth the investment - they're easily the best inserts I've got, they last for hours. I use them overnight without extra boosting without any leaks, and use them in my other pockets too. I got mine from nappyzone. The only slight negative is that although the nappies are technically birth to potty, they are quite big (and they don't popper down like BGs) so I didn't start using them on my son (and he's a big baby) until he was about 10 weeks old.

WSS- The inserts are doubled so more absorbancy :wine: Only problem with the GK for me is applix as Jude can undo them. I'd actually suggest trying a few different nappies to see which works best for you.

I use any inserts I have with my GK's. I have also used pre-folds and they work just as well and fit in fine. they ahve quite a large opening to the pocket so I have found I can actually fit in anything I want.

Thanks for the advice ladies - much appreciated!
These seem like the perfect nappy for me - the fact they're bulky on a newborn isn't an issue for me, as I have a set of newborn fitteds (I just can't resist cute fluffy newborn nappies!).
I have just bought one Greenkids nappy which I've got on really well with (so far anyway!). I've tried lots of different pocket nappies and they all have their advantages and disadvantages. Although aplix is a pain as it's easy opening, I do find it easier to get a better fit with it - and if my son is trying to open his nappy I just put some tight trousers on over the top and distract him with a toy which usually works! I quite like the bumgenius but I have found they are a pain to wash, and they started looking tatty very quickly.
The cost of a greenkids nappy + insert is actually less than I thought - and only a little more than a bumgenius, which I was initially planning on buying a set of anyway.
I will buy the Greenkids inserts (second hand if they come up - I agree with you about the patience thing, i havent really got the patience for prewashing!) and then buy some cheaper boosters and microfibre cloths. I've just bought a few packs of 5 Easy Peasy hemp boosters which are great and I'm sure they'll work with a GK insert.
Thanks again ladies
