trousers and pockets?

Postby CharlottesClan » Mon Jun 21, 2010 10:38 am

where is the best place to get trousers which will be a loose fit on my sons big bum? :giggle:

we use fitteds and wool alot of the time, but need some pockets for days out and currently everything is too tight (including when we size up)

hes a heavy wetter so they are rather well stuffed.. lol!

I always found the supermarkets to be very generous in size...Tesco in particular.

TBH I never had a problem getting "normal" trousers over my lo's cloth bums. I'd often buy the next size up and just turn up the legs if they were too long but I never bought anything special.

I have this problem too, and my DD isn't even a particularly heavy wetter - can't get any of her trousers on over her pockets unless we go up two sizes

The best pair I have from a shop are from Blooming Marvellous - they just seem cut differently and fit really well - even though they are 6-9 months (she's in 12-18mths everywhere else - she's 8 months!)

You can also get specific clothes designed for cloth nappies - check out Frugis Cut4cloth range http://www.welovefrugi.com/baby-clothes/cut4cloth/product_list.htm

You can also ask the WAHMs on here to make you some trousers or shorts - they are great at making things to fit over cloth nappies :)

I could never get normal trousers to fit over Noahs bottom, he's always been on the higher end of the centile charts and any normal trousers would cause wicking within half an hour.

I second what Danika has said regarding wahm made and Frugi, I've never bought any Blooming Marvelous clothes but may give those a try soon. TBH since converting to fitteds for daytime I've stuck with wool because he can move in it, he always looked uncomfortable in normal trousers.

We get most of ours from Sainsbury's and Primark. I find Next and Mothercare just too short in the rise (and pricey :giggle: )

same story here Carolyn - Annabel is on the 98th% for height so even in a disposable I imagine she would only just fit in the trousers - even the ones which do go on tend to have at least an inch or so of her pocket nappy sticking up at the back, and there would be no chance over a fitted and wrap

We use wool mainly as it definitely looks so much more comfortable - Annabel can sit and crawl about much better in her wool. I also love our WAHM shorts from Rae as they have loads of room.

Yep I'd imagine so, my cousins little one is a bit younger than Noah but built the same as him and she struggles to get trousers over his nappy even though he's in sposies. Clothes do tend to be cut really slim now-a-days which doesn't help..

I've not really bothered with normal trousers for Poppy, she's average weight but short so looks chunky and I figured I may aswell go straight for wool. :giggle:

A few tips:

Stay away from jeans, cords or heavy canvas. They always seem to be a slimmer cut trouser.

I used to look for trousers that were wider in the hip. I loved my DS in soft jersey joggers, they always seemed perfect for littlies (I have an intense dislike of denim and heavy fabrics on little ones). Another good trick is to buy a bigger size in a crop trouser, works out to be a good purchase, my DS is still wearing some crop trousers I bought for him 3 years ago :giggle: (he wore them the first year as fuill lenght trousers over cloth, the next year as crops and this year they fit him as boardies!)

Tescos clothing is generously sized and washes and wears well
