Joeli's knitting pattern - My diary

Permanent Linkby clairelana on Sun Apr 18, 2010 8:50 pm

I'm going to attempt to do Joeli's longies :-? Well, I'm going to do crops.
I've never even managed to cast on right before so I've not got high hopes

I just had a panic moment when I realised my wool is in skeins not balls. :giggle: Then I remembered my bargin £10 knitting machine had a wool winder (not sure of its name) in with all the extra bits. I did also think about trying on that, but I think that might be harder to work out :hohoho:

So first job is to put my wool into balls, now its dry.

I was thinking about keeping a kind of diary on here. Should be a laugh :giggle: Although no laughing when I get stressed :hohoho:
I wonder if I'll get past casting on

Wish me luck ladies :-?

I'm already stuck :(
I've not got past the swatch to measure how many stitches.
I'm quite proud that I managed to cast on though!

Right I've cast on and purled a row but every time I try I get a big loop at the end like this -

what am I doing wrong?

I decided to start again, this was only the swatch to count the stitches.
I tried casting on a few times and finally managed to sus it out.

I then cast on 144 stitches about 3 times  then got it right.
I knitted a few rows and my mum looked at it and told me to start again :x

I started again and concentrated more and managed to get past the icord row.
I wasn't happy with how it looked. I couldn't understand how I was going to get it to match up when I'd lost a stitch. :-?

Thankfully Joeli made me realised I hadn't done the yarn over part of the icord row.
So I undid past the icord row and now I'm 2/3rds round doing it with the yarn over :giggle:

A huge thank you to Joeli for this pattern and inspiring me to try :knit:
I'm amazed at how it looks, it's not 100% perfect but I'm happy. :wine:

I wasn't 100% sure how to do it from the pattern so I watched this - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wyXWn2LL ... re=related

I'm 2 rows in to the stockinette stich rows that I have to do 1" of, before the next short row.

Here's what I looks like so far -

I was thinking about buying some longer DPN's I was using 4 -20cm ones.
The stiches kept falling off, so I'm now using all 5 of my DPN's which seems to be helping. I can't believe I didn't think about this earlier  :giggle:
Note to self - XL longies have more stiches therfore need longer or more needles :giggle:

Here's todays progress, so far - not much further, I'm sooo slow

I'm thinking about buying circ's for my next project.

I can't undo all that work, I just can't :giggle: I'm going to start kniting now and see what It looks like.

It would look good if you just carry on knitting and purling (called garter stitch). From the pictures it looks good to me!
