Help for tonight please

I'm going to a book launch tonight. Starts at 8.30 in an arts centre & there is a wine reception. I have a black dress in my wardrobe so didn't buy anything but think it may be too dressy now. What would you wear to a book launch?

Forgot about this. I wore the dress & put a boyfriend style long cardi over it. I wore my hair down & high heels & it looked fab in all honesty I was more dressed up than a lot of people but I'm close family of the author & his close friends & family were all dressed up to a similar level as me so I didn't look too overdone. It was a great night & I'm really proud that he has finally been published after years of working very hard in the business.
