Foundation for pale skin

Postby BingBongBoo » Sat Jan 11, 2014 2:58 pm

Just that really. I have very fair skin and am having difficulty finding a foundation that doesn't make me look orange. I used to use Clinique Superfit but that has sadly been discontinued now and the foundation Clinique replaced it with doesn't work for me.

I've tried quite a few brands recently, including but not limited to, Bare Minerals, No 7 and Rimmel. The lightest shades of all of these have been too dark.

Any recommendations, ladies? I look much better with foundation as I have an uneven skin tone. But I am not prepared to look like an Oompa Loompa!

I was going to suggest BM. I am pretty pale (I used to always need the lightest shade of any foundation I ever bought) and find the fairly light BM to be fine in the Winter. (I alternate between light and medium beige in the Summer months). I can't remember the brands I used to use before that  I will have a think!

I have pale skin with rosacea (major redness) and freckles. Dainty Doll specialises in pale skin tones and is well reviewed (daintydoll.com). Illamasqua has a white foundation that can be mixed with their normal foundations to make it paler as do MAC. REN colour match bb cream works weirdly well too.

Personally I use Dior's bbcream for my pale skin but I only put it on the areas that need it to even the tone (red bits mostly), I blend the edges with a flat topped brush. If you look up Lisa Eldridge's foundation tutorial on YouTube she explains about this, it kinda rocked my world that using less makeup made my skin look smoother and more evenly toned.

Depends how much you want to spend. In mid range brands I really like L'Oreal perfect match, I'm fairly pale but not the palest and I'm about a 3 (can't remeber the scale, but if 1 is palest I'm between 2 and 3).

I also have Nars Deauville which is a yellow based pale, and it's a bit too pale for me, and it's not the palest. It's a bit spendy tho so if you can get to a Nars counter I'd get them to try it on you and then walk around for a bit/ go home and see if you're happy. I've made a few foundation mistakes trusting the SA with the chin test.

If you're at that level of cash, Mac do a nice large range of colours and I have also had nice Chanel foundation before. Are you pink toned or yellow toned?

I very (very, very, very) rarely wear make up, but for my sister's wedding I bought some rimmel match perfection (shade 100,ivory) it's lovely and light feeling and looks good on my pale skin, but strangely also looked good when I was fake tanned for the wedding.

Thanks everyone. Have had a look at the Dainty Doll range and it looks great. But I think the best thing is to go on a shopping trip to a department store and ask to try some samples on my skin. Will try MAC first as a couple of of you have suggested that.

Thanks again.
