Can I grow veggies on a hill?

We have a ridiculous slope on the side/front of our house which is currently weed infested. The land is fertile and we get a lot of rain so the weeds will always be an issue. Can I grow veg?

If not has anyone got any good ideas for cheap ground cover?

Can you put something like railway sleepers in to make several ledge type areas to grow things in? Not sure what ground cover works there, but what about some kind of resiliant herb? Thyme? Lavender?

Could you try something that trails on the ground, like pumpkins, zucchini etc? And I agree with mudita. If it's a sunny slope particularly the mediterranean herbs should do well, and thyme should spread nicely. Would the soil wash away if you removed all the weeds? Or are the weeds in fact holding the slope together? If so, you probably need to put some sort of retaining structures in.

Or another idea, you could kill all the weeds and then try sewing a sort of wildflower mix or something like that.
