The garden project

Postby confusinglady » Sun Feb 15, 2015 10:40 pm

Since moving I ve been holding back doing anything ( bar weeding the front) as its tricky to know where to start. We inherited a mature garden that has been a bit neglected ( the same as the house!) over a few years. You can see someone has designed and planted really well and then the next owner just left things to self seed and hasn t cut things back when they needed it.
The veg patch was so overgrown and I ve been desperate to find it again and get things planted for this year :)
This is what I have been doing bit by bit over the last few weeks with small hands 'helping' ( read trying to eat soil and throwing water around!)

The little separate beds were buried under everything!
My plan is to add some compost from the falling over compost heap ....... And I not got much further than that in my plans.

We also started a little fairy garden next to it

I m going to go for potatoes Emma. Nothing like eating a home grown one :D
Maybe corn, runner beans , courgettes. I ve tried carrots before without success, I think the soil is too full of clay around here isn t it.
Hoping to do tomatoes in the greenhouse  all new to me that so will have to see If I need to do anything special!

A little update!

I ve been working hard on my veg patch ( with my 3 little helpers!) .
We now have in order of the rows front to back: strawberries, onions, spinach, beetroot, courgettes, potatoes and sweet corn. I m going to put purple sprouting broccoli in behind the beetroot and also some French beans to grow up and around the weird pyramid tressil thingy that I found in the garden ;)
Dd1 also brought home, today, a runner bean that she has been growing at school.
I m hoping to put in a pumpkin and perhaps a squash with the courgettes.
Can't wait for them to grow!

Ps ignore the weeds! I haven't got a hoe !
