Can't wait to see if all of our beech hedge is growing this year :fingerscrossed:

Oooo I love a nice beech hedge

I ve not tried growing garlic , I grew onions last year and noticed in jan that some that hadn't sprouted last year had suddenly sprouted in the ground. I m not sure what to do with them now!

We had home grown purple sprouting broccoli for tea tonight yum :)

@confusinglady how do you pick what will go where and how many plants you will put in each section? The more research I do the more :loopy: :panic: I get :giggle:

So my current plans are just to worry about the middle 'terrace' and do my beds there. I read it is best to have them north / south so have gone the opposite way to what I'd originally thought but actually I'm really happy that it will look really nice as well :dancing:

At the back I've included a sitting area under the (as yet unkown) fruit tree and I'll do a play area for Rémy with an activity board on the back fence etc so he can happily (I hope) play while I garden! Not yet worked out what placements I'm going to do! The green is the paths and the white is the beds and I'll add in what I'm doing as I work it out!

@clothmama
Yours looks prettier than mine :hohoho:
Because I was starting from scratch I decided to plant with crop rotation in mind. I went for really basic crop rotation though as that can hurt your head if you read too much into it!
I just grouped them in to the 3 main types. Then you can rotate those same plants next year without having to hurt your head again too much. Does that make sense?

OK so the measuring out all went well :D the only thing was that I decided to change the end beds a bit as the tree was further over than I thought and it all looked a bit squashed so I have a small bed on the end 'prong' and a bit more space to make a nice area at the end under the tree. I have updated my plan to show this:

Lots of photos as I couldn't see when I was taking them due to the sun and wanted to make sure you could see properly!!!

How awesome Tory :yahoo: And I am seriously so so jealous of the spring-kind of weather you are having - yes yes I know you live about 1400 km south of me but still it must be so lovely being able to do something real in the garden - here its just waiting for the ground and everything to heat enough :waiting:

That looks fab

Sorry was lurking from Mils earlier. I decided to do crop rotation as that's what my dad did and it helped me to have a rough forward plan for rotating. It was also good for my head to group the plants together and move together each year if that makes sense.
So for your plants you'd have :

Roots: carrots
Brassicas: broccoli, radish, lettuce, sprouts, wom bok?
Legumes and onions: mangetout, leeks, beans, peas

Fruit: peppers, courgette

I think herbs you pick a spot and stick to it, also with fruit bushes obviously. I tend to keep strawberries in the same place too ( don't think that was on your list)

This is only rough and doesn't matter if the plots overlap next year. You ll have to figure out how much space roughly the rows or plants take up. The seeds should give you a guide ; I know it makes your head hurt though so sometimes it's just trial and error.
Courgettes take up lots of space I can vouch for that one!
I always put in too many plants than the packet says as I never believe they re going to grow as big as they say :giggle: but they do
The sprouting broccoli I have in now looked so tiny and now they are massive!

Hth!

Grrr just using the planner I've found and it seems that certain things take up heaps of space for only one plant eg broccoli and cauliflower  :loopy:

Eek should'nt be here I m suppose to be finishing my cv
But just quickly.... I have same prob with lack of space with only small plot so I m devising a plan to plant spinach and lettue and maybe something else in where I will put the broccoli etc later as they ll be in the ground longer. Also not going to sew my broccoli seeds till later so they could go in over winter. We've had lots of lovely purple sprouting broccoli from our plants this jan feb and it's still sprouting.
So lettuce and stuff will be coming out before broccoli goes in or they can overlap for a bit as they don't grow big till later.
Also courgette I d say you need 4 plants at the most to supply enough for your family over the summer and some in the freezer. I m going for 3 this year. It never looks enough but by god this plants go mental and produce lots of fruit! They do like water though. I stopped picking mine in the hope they'd stop growing at one point as I was sick of the sight of them :giggle:

Thank you for taking the time to do such thorough replies for me Nicola @confusinglady I really appreciate it! Although now I've spent much of my evening looking into your 3 sisters thing so I'm going to do that as well adn have added that on the next terrace up as I'm out of space and you need 3x3m!

I havent' finished but here is the plan I've been working on  I'm sure I'll play with set out as I read what things can't go together but I just wanted to get everything I have seeds for (plus a few things) ontot the plan! Woudl appreciate any feedback on what will / won't work or what I should move etc
