Veggies 2019

Postby confusinglady » Mon Apr 22, 2019 8:53 am

Here we are again another year another veg patch

Jobs done so far:
Fixed my greenhouse- we broke a bottom pane of glass about a month after moving in 4.5 years ago. I'd patched it up with some packaging from when we moved. Over this winter I lost the full side panel next to the door so 2 square panes and a triangle. Also one from the roof. Moneys tight here so it had not been a priority to replace. My mil found a long pane of glass and then when we were putting that in I found loads of glass behind the greenhouse which it turns out were spare panes so we replaced all of the broken ones :D

So I've tidied the area and got everything ready for planting.

The veg patch outside is coming along too. I ll have to take a photo today

I m sure you will though, but you've been busy being poorly and then starting your new job! I know how much time work takes from a week. It's only because I've had two weeks off work and knew if I didn't do it now it wouldn't happen!

Doesn't help that the chickens destroyed the 2 trays I did have going :x :x :x :x I'm not going to stress though - worst case I'll just get some tomato, butternut and cucumber plants and just put them in. J has saved his chillis over winter in the house so they should be great this year! Maybe we'll just eat chillis :hohoho:

Sounds like a good plan @clothmama !
I ended up buying plants last year as my seeds failed so badly.

Here is the 2019 veg patch so far:
Image

I've planted peas, spinach, little gem lettuce, and rocket so far.
I moved the strawberry plants over to the left.

Here's my little draft plan. Random pencil scribbles :giggle:

I currently have random self seeded plants in the bottom right and leeks down last year in the first raised bed. I'm harvesting and eating the leeks at the mo.

Updated photos of the veg patch today :)
Peas, spinach, little gem lettuce, leeks, carrots and beetroot all growing this year from seed. Leeks are in from last year and I m picking when needed. Strawberries were moved and are all old stock so we ll see how they do.
Then there's growth in the greenhouse too. Trying to take more regular photos. Peppers, chillis, one aubergine, some cucumber and lots of tomatoes ( some out of the photo in grow bags on the floor that you can't see.
My house is mostly a sh%t hole but my garden is my happy place.

Also not veg related but gardening- I've been trying to have a tidy up of the jungle all April and May.
Here is a before photo on 4th may and the second photo is of today.
May is my favourite time in my garden

June update :)

Things starting to grow in the patch ( a little bit drowned out the last few days! )
Photo taken yesterday so 11th June :

We've been enjoying salad - spinach, rocket and a few baby little gem seedlings thinned. Just a little bit of each when needed for pasta / risotto etc. It's my plan to plant every few weeks to have a manageable steady supply although getting too warm for the spinach as it's starting to go to flower already :(
Beetroot, leeks, carrots looking good so far although in one of my patches I think the seeds were disturbed before I put the bits of wood down as big gaps in seed appearances.

Also so chuffed that our pergola is in full bloom it looks so pretty!
