How clean is your house?

Postby clothmama » Sun Mar 25, 2012 1:49 am

I was just pondering on my own cleaning and was trying to work out truly how slobby I am  I know I am not a domestic goddess and I try to keep on top of things but my house is not always the shiny, tidy place I would like it to be! I thought it would be fun to do a survey to see what everyone else does!

I probably hoover the living area every other day, the rest of the house gets done weekly. Possibly with the exception of Iris' room, which is inclined to chaos and I do as and when I can see enough of the floor to make it worthwhile. The kitchen gets hoovered every other day, too, but mopped less often. It's tiny, though, and gets a regular going over with a damp cloth and some floor spray at least once a week. I don't make beds. I read it encourages dust mites. That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it. :hohoho: DH is in charge of bathrooms, so he does them about every 10 days. I'd prefer weekly, but I keep quiet as at least it's not me cleaning them. All the windows in our place are floor to ceiling. They all have small handprints over them at about two and four feet high. I don't see the point in cleaning them, so I don't. And I deep clean rarely - we tend to move house before I get the chance. :hohoho:

Your house always looks fine to me so your schedule makes me feel better :giggle: :giggle: My 6 monthly cleans usually coincide with a rental inspection :hohoho: :hohoho:

I really need to get the vacuum out as I've realised it has been at least 3 weeks since the kids carpets were fitted and I think I've only done the vacuuming once (before you guys came Nichola - maybe I just need more weekend visitors :giggle: !)

That made me laugh! My mum always makes her bed and I've always struggled to do mine but I really really love getting into a made bed and seeing it all pretty with cushions etc when made up. When I get into a good habit of doing it it makes me happy

Brendan does the floors and is alittle anal about the kitchen/dinning room floors so he does them alot! I like to do the bathrooms on the weekend so that's it's done and out of the way. I like the beds to be made but usually only ours  my defense is the kids always play on theirs so it is kind of pointless. I like to do a big clean up every 4 months or so and everyone helps and we do it start to finish in a full weekend.

I'm a slob! We don't make the beds, we throw the duvets back in the morning to let the mattresses air out - mites like warm damp conditions and as you lose a litre or so of sweat in your bed every night I'd rather they were aired out anyway tyvm!
We vacuum weekly, I might do the living room more often, but only if we have people coming. Bathroom/toilet and kitchen is kept clean, usually daily, floors swept daily, washed weekly (wiped in places if necessary!). We don't tend to spill much though and don't wear shoes in the house.
Windows get cleaned when I think about them, probably every few months. I don't think we do truly deep clean, but then I don't think we need to if the place is kept fairly clean to start with. I suppose when I switch the boys clothes for summer/winter their rooms get a good clean.
My worst is dusting, our old house is a nightmare to keep on top of the dust so it just gets done as and when

There are some things I'm retentive about  I make the beds everyday but then pull the duvet back so that they can air (and keep mites down) and I open the bedroom windows every single day, even in the depths of winter. The bedding gets changed weekly.

Bathrooms get a full clean once a week but I also do the loos and sinks during the week too.

My cleaner used to do my spring clean but she left me before Xmas  and I haven't got another one yet, so atm, no one is doing it.

My handheld Dyson is a godsend after the children have been eating and for doing the stairs during the week.

I do this too. When its really hot in the Summer bedding gets changed twice a week.

And this, toilet and basins get a quick wipe over every day and the rest a full clean once a week

I hoover downstairs twice a day mainly because my 4 make so much mess and we have dark carpets and the floor needs washing at pretty much every meal atm thanks to my littlest lady who likes to throw her food on the floor rather than eat it. :giggle:

I have a dust mite allergy so damp dust every day downstairs and every other day upstairs. The stairs and landing get hoovered daily and the bedrooms 3/4 times a week.

Our cleaner does the weekly stuff. If the floor really needs a wash or a mop in between it gets done by one of us but other than sweeping under the dining table it isn't usually needed. DH gives the toilets an exta clean at the weekend and the kitchen gets wiped down regularly.

Beds get straightened but often duvets are turned back.

I think we are helped by the fact we work FT- Ewan doesn't get the chance to completely destroy the house!
