I'm always looking for new, more environmentally friendly ways to do things around the house.
The search for this recipe came about because I was spending huge amount of money on commercial branded weedkiller.
We have a very large brick driveway, and an equally sizeable patio (part brick, part slabs) outside the back of our house. And because of the amount of trees we have around the garden - soooooooooo many weeds grown between the cracks of the bricks/slabs.
1 small bottle of the commerical branded stuff cost anywhere from £3-4 per small bottle and it only covered a small area.
I was also wary about using such harsh chemicals with the children and the dog playing in the garden.
So I wanted something which was safe for them too

In fact now.... James & Eleanor get given their own spray bottles of our homemade weedkiller and they get to help out.
The first time we used it - we were amazed! It worked soooooo quickly and its sooooooo cheap to make!
Ingredients
1 part salt - ours in supermarket cheap stuff for 39p a bottle
1 part washing up liquid - also the cheapest stuff 99p
Top up with white vinegar (roughly 3-4 parts)- we get a massive container from our local Asian supermarket for £1.49!!
We've experimented with the ratios and find that the more salt you can get to dissolve in the vinegar the better it works!

Recipe
Put the salt and washing up liquid into an empty spray bottle
Top up with the white vinegar (typically 3-4 parts vinegar, to 1 part salt and 1 part vinegar
Label the bottle clearly with its contents
And although its safe with children and pets - keep away out of reach.
We make ours up right before we need to use it and use it all - so we don't have any to store!
