What size drum do I need?

Postby musdih » Wed Sep 16, 2015 11:24 am

Hi girls (and guys)
Need to pick your brains about washing machines
Ours went kaput a month ago and I've had to use the dreaded disposies while hubby fought to sort our warranty cover out
Anyhooo long story short - I've gone for LG taking into account the post on here
Anyway I've whittled it down to these 2:
9kg drum
http://ao.com/product/f14a7fdsa-lg-true ... 132-1.aspx
12kg drum
http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/household- ... 2-pdt.html

Can't decide - so going to base it on drum size and what you guys have to say
I have a 2 year old no where near ready potty training and a 2 month old in sized cloth
Also have a 4 year old who wears super undies overnight
I like to wash every 3rd day of poss - ie wash one day and skip 2 days
So what size drum would be best?
Till now I've struggled with 5kg and with 2 in cloth had a load in every day
Going to order tonight as sick of the waste and smell of disposies and the skin rash!

I'd really love a 10kg washing machine. I have a 2 year old in nappies, and a mucky 6 year old and OH who need A clear work/school uniform every day plus 4 days of after school activities and my poor 5kg washing machine is on 2/3 times a day. With baby number 3 on the way I fear my machine may actually leg it :giggle: I'm sure on the AO website it recommends a 10kg one for a Family of 5!

You must have edited your post while I was typing, is go 12kg if it's within your budget, better too big than too small right!!

(Hehe yes I was editing I forgot to put on the links lol )
That's exactly what dh says re drum size but the steam function on 9kg seems very good esp as dh and ds2 have skin problems and allergies
Hence me being undecided
I hear you with the 5kg drum I did one load a day of nappies and then 1 or 2 of other washing depending on how naughty the boys have been lol

We have an 8kg machine(beko). It's seen me through two in full time cloth plus a mucky 4yr old, looking at the price difference I think I'd go with the 9kg

Oh dear
One all so far - I wonder if anyone knows about the steam function - I'm sure it's a no go for the nappies though as steam would definitely ruin elastics - right?
I've researched the 12kg til the cows come home and it has very good critical and user reviews - it's a which best buy and it's top point for me is that it rinses extremely well
Which is why despite it being over budget I like it
But the steam function....! And the price ....!of the 9kg
Alas no critical reviews
Oh what to do? My heads in whirl

@ems101
How often did you do a nappy wash in your beko with 2 in cloth?

Do you have enough room to dry 12 kg worth of washing in one go? If not go for the 9kg.

I just bought a 9kg beko and its fab :)

@lynniferT oh you bought a beko then? Read your washing machine post
I have a beko condenser dryer brilliant and a bargain it was too
Very good point about putting all that drying out - didn't think of that so thank you very much
I tend to indoor air dry and only use dryer for towels and bedding or if absolutely desperate
